To be honest, while i was watching this movie, it was difficult for me to understand without Korean subtitle. However, as i watched it over and over again, i understood this movie was based on antagonistic relationship between humanism and materialism. Older brother, Zachary and younger brother, Christopher are described as characters who represent humanism and materialism. Humanism is a concept which respects human being himself purely regardless of human being`s external condition and circumstance.
On the contrary, materialism means money is the best and the most valuable. When people think money is the most valuable, it means people can sacrifice and take advantage of everything in order to attain the money. Even though Zachary`s warm-hearted behavior is not a duty for living, we can learn from the movie we should live for humanity; moreover, the movie shows Christopher`s wrong perspective for material and greed is miserable.
"The mountain", a movie made in 1954, shows beautiful scenery of nature and procedures that people confront a lot of problems while people were climbing a stiff mountain.

One day an airplane is going to London from Calcutta. However, because of abnormal weather, an accident occurs which a plane crashes into a spot of Mt. Everest. At that time, Zachary gets a call for help; nevertheless, he refuses it and introduces other people because he saw a person`s death when he hiked ten years ago. However, the other people are also dead because of heavy snow and a snowslide. Finally, the rescue is postponed until next spring. Because of this situation, Christopher begins to succumb to temptation for the money. He persuades Zachary to bring money and jewelries together from the plane.
