1. 들어가면서

우리 나라의 교실 수업에서 협동학습이 적절하게 사용되고 있는 경우는 흔하지 않은 것으로 본다. 대부분의 협동학습이 연구나 시범적인 적용의 수준을 벗어나지 못하고 있다. 그 까닭은 아직까지 교사들의 협동학습에 대한 이해가 부족하다는 점과 미국을 중심으로 연구되어온 협동학습을 우리 교실에 적용하기에는 생태학적으로 해결되어야 할 문제가 남아있기 때문이다. 그럼에도 불구하고 협동 학습은 정보화ㆍ세계화 시대에 필요한 인성을 길러주는 데 적합하며, 최근에 주목을 받고 있는 구성주의 교수 이론의 관점에서 본다면 학생이 지식을 구성하고 검증할 수 있는 가장 효과적인 학습 방법이라고 볼 수 있다. 그러므로 교사들은 꾸준한 연찬을 통해 협동학습을 올바르게 이해하고, 이를 바탕으로 교과 혹은 특정 학습 내용을 가르치기 위한 적절한 모형을 선택하여 교실에 효과적으로 적용할 수 있는 능력을 배양하는 것이 무엇보다도 필요하다고 본다.
그래서 이 강의는 먼저 교사들이 협동학습에 대한 이해를 높이기 위하여 협동 학습의 개념, 역사적 및 철학적인 배경, 협동학습의 효과, 협동학습 모형, 협동 학습의 설계 원리를 간명하게 요약하여 제공하고, 이어서 협동학습을 처음 시작하는 교사가 많은 준비 없이 성공을 경험할 수 있고, 다른 협동학습 모형을 학습하는 데 필요한 협동 기술을 익히는 데 도움이 되는 스크립트 협동학습의 방법과 적용 사례를 소개하려고 한다.

2. 협동학습

2-1협동학습의 개념
협동(cooperation)이란 공유된 목표에 대한 개인간의 관계에서 생기는 행동이라고 한다면, 단지 타인의 목표 달성을 도와주는 것이 주된 목표가 되는 협력(helpfulness)과 구별된다.
학생들 간의 협동을 이용하는 대부분의 수업 전략을 협동학습이라고 할 수 있다. 협동학습은 집단을 조직하고, 공동의 목표를 설정하며, 설정된 목표를 달성하기 위하여 공동으로 노력하고, 구성원들끼리 도움을 주고받는 학습 방법이다. 전통적인 소집단 학습과 비교할 때 협동학습은 긍정적인 상호 의존과 개별 책무성, 그리고 동등한 성공 기회 등의 요소가 포함된 학습방법이다.
