    ① 산 염기 불균형
    * 체내 산도는 수소이온(H+)의 의해 결정됨
    * 혈청 내 정상 pH는 7.35~7.45이며 pH가 7.0이하이면 산성, 7.0이상이면 알칼리성
    * 중탄산, 탄산의 부족·과다 : 산-염기의 불균형
    * 정상적인 균형 : 탄산 : 중탄산=1:20
    * 산증 : 1:20보다 큰 경우(탄산↑, 중탄산↓)
    * 알칼리증 : 1:20보다 작은 경우(중탄산↑, 탄산↓)
    * 호흡성과 대사성에 의해 조절된다.

    * 인공호흡기의 형태
    1)음압 인공호흡기(negative pressure ventilators)
    음압 인공호흡기는 흉곽 외부에 음압을 가하는 것이다. 흡입하는 동안 흉곽 내압을 감소시킴으로서 공기가 폐로 들어가고 폐가 차게 된다. 환기를 보조하는 이 형태는 자연적인 환기와 유사하다. 그러나 안정되지 않거나 복합적인 문제가 있는 환자, 자주 인공호흡기의 변화를 필요로 하는 환자에게는 사용하기 어렵다. 음압 인공호흡기는 기도삽관이 필요 없고 간단하게 사용된다.

    양압 인공호흡기는 풀무같이 기도를 통해 공기를 넣어 폐를 부풀린다. 그리고 흡입하는 동안 폐포는 팽창되며, 호기는 수동적으로 일어난다. 기관내 삽관이나 기관절개술이 필요하다. 이 형태는 병원에서 주로 사용되며 가정에 있는 환자 중 일차적으로 폐질환으로 인해 호흡조고가 필요한 자에게 많이 사용된다, 양압 호흡기에는 3가지 형태가 있다
    (1)용적조절 인공호흡기(volume-cycled ventilator) : 정해진 공기의 양(1회 호흡량)이 흡기 때마다 전달되는 것으로 MAI, Bear, Servo 등이 있다. 이 호흡기의 장점은 1회 호흡량이 변함없고 대상자의 폐 순응도에 따라 1회 호흡량을 전달하기 위해 필요한 압력이 달라진다. 이런 특징 때문에 오늘날 성인 대상자에게 용적조절 호흡기를 가장 흔히 사용한다. 폐유순도가 낮은 경우 폐 손상을 유발할 수 있다.
    (2)압력조절 인공호흡기(pressure-cycled ventilator) : 압력형 인공호흡기에서 사용하는 CMV mode로 기계에 설정한 호흡횟수를 대상자의 자발적 호흡과 무관하게 무조건 전달한다. 공기가 미리 정해진 압력에 도달될 때까지 폐에 전달되고, 동시에 흡기가 끝난다.
