12p - INSPIRATION : SWAN
“I picture this building as a swan floating on water. If you look at the building from a distance, you will feel the same way. In Uji, Kyoto, there is a famous temple called Byodoin. The temple has the shape of a phoenix, the legendary swan reflecting in the water. This project has a similar image.” - Michael Oping, 7 Interviews with Ando Dadao, 2002

15p - EXTERIOR ANALYSIS : LINE
The five boxes that make up the museum are perfectly arranged horizontally and vertically, reflecting the architectural character of Ando Tadao. The height of the building is not very high as it is two stories high, and the concrete roofing plate covering the roof is longer, which emphasizes the horizontal lines more than the vertical ones. It connects with the surrounding expansive, horizontal land. The horizontal line of the pond and the vertical line of the building also meet at right angles to give a more geometrically perfect appearance. The lines of the building are reflected in the pond and the lines appear to be extended, which makes the building more grandiose. The Y-shaped pillars visible from the outside of the building add the beauty of diagonal lines between the right-angled lines, howing a not boring design.
