In 1995, the National Health Promotion Act introduced a warning phrase for cigarette packs for the first time, and since then, it has implemented active smoking cessation programs such as raising tobacco taxes and distributing anti-smoking advertisements through the media. Until now, fear-provoking words such as "cancer" and "death" have been steadily adopted in first anti-smoking advertisements. In addition, the advertisement attached to the cigarette pack continues to point out that it is too disgusting to express the body damaged by smoking, and there are opinions that the water level may be too high.
However, the first anti-smoking advertisement in 2020 released by the Ministry of Health and Welfare was quite different from the existing one.
