Australia is a multicultural country with a continuous influx of people around the world from diverse cultural backgrounds. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (2017), almost half of Australians were born overseas, or were children of immigrants, and more than 300 different languages are spoken by Australians at home. In this culturally diverse society, nurses play a key role for ensuring accessibility to and equitable distribution of healthcare resources to those from different cultures (Crisp, Douglas, Rebeiro, & Waters, 2017). However, some minor cultural groups experience difficulties adapting to Australian culture and accessing healthcare services. Refugees are one of the most marginalised minor cultural groups in Australia, due to multiple barriers that include social and cultural factors (Holland & Hogg, 2010).
