1. Introduction
1.1 Purpose
There is a lot of information available on cement types GU (General Use) and HE (High Early Strength) in Calgary, AB, so a summary for the client is needed to help them make the best choice by balancing cost and benefits, as well as taking into account the feasibility of the types being compared.
Our audience is a Construction Management Company (A & B) in need of information regarding two types of cement (GU and HE) to be used in the construction of a 750 m2 sidewalk downtown in the city of Calgary, AB, which means that high early strength is required, since the curing process has to be completed quickly due to the amount of people passing by on a daily basis.
The comparison criteria are high pedestrian traffic, time x strength gain, chemical components, and cost.
This report is also going to conclude that HE (High Early Strength) cement is the best choice when building a 750 m2 sidewalk downtown during the winter (temperatures around 5˚C), in the city of Calgary, AB.
