1. 사정도구로서 생애사 연구와 객관적 해석학의 시사

1) 객관적 해석학
객관적 해석학(Objective Hermeneutics)은 독일의 사회학자인 Ulrich Oevermann에 의해 발전되었으며, 사회학과 사회과학 분야가 측정가능한 것에만 몰두하는 미국의 양적 연구에 대한 비판과 대안으로 제시된 질적 연구 방법이다. 연구 방법(research method)으로 자료 분석과 해석의 절차를 발전시킨 객관적 해석학은 인간 경험의 의미를 이해하기 위해 주체의 행위와 상호작용 규칙에 의해 형성된 의미구조에 관심을 두었다(이효선, 2005). Mead의 언어 이론(theory of language), Searle의 규칙 개념(concept of rules)과 Peirce의 귀추법(abductive research logic)을 바탕으로 발전되어 온 객관적 해석학은, 특히 독일어권 나라에서 전문직 연구를 비롯한 종교, 미디어, 교육학, 사회복지학 등 많은 영역에서 분석도구로 활용되고 있다.

중도장애를 입게 되면 신체적 변화뿐만 아니라 여러 수준에서 한 사람의 전체 인생행로가 방해받는다는 의미에서 Bury는 중도장애의 경험을 인생역정의 혼란(biographical disruption)이라고도 하였다(임난영/한혜숙, 2004), 이렇듯 비장애인으로서의 삶을 영위하다가 갑작스러운 사고로 장애를 입게 된 중도장애인들은 자신의 신체적 변화에 따라 기존에 살아오던 생활방식을 변화시켜 새롭게 적응해야 하는 문제에 부딪히게 된다. 본 연구의 A, B, C사례도 역시 장애 직후에는 위기를 경험하지만, 각자의 자원을 활용하여 변화된 삶에 적응하며 살아가고 있었다. 이때 장애 이후 적응의 과정에서 이들의 행위를 선택하는 방식은 변화가 아닌 기존의 삶의 전략을 유지하고 있음을 발견할 수 있었다. 즉, 장애로 인한 신체의 변화는 있어도 그들의 생활 패턴은 장애 이후에도 이전의 패턴을 유지하며 장애를 극복하는 모습을 볼 수 있었다. 삶의 전략은 세월의 역사를 통해 형성되는 것으로 상황과 내용이 바뀌더라도 행동을 결정하는 기제로 작용해 개인의 삶의 패턴을 살필 수 있게 한다. 물론 내부적 변화와 외부와의 상호작용으로 삶의 전략이 변화 혹은 발전될 수 있는 가능성은 있으며, 만약 그렇다면 어떤 과정 속에서 이것이 형성되고 변화하는가를 설명해 주는 것이 중요할 것이다.
