I. 머 리 말
경제성장을 달성하기 위해서는 무엇보다도 인적자본의 개발이 필수불가결하다는 이론은 오늘날 널리 인정되고 있다. 특히 지난 20여 년간에 걸친 우리나라의 지속적 경제성장이 양질의 풍부한 노동력에 힘입은 바 크다는 사실은 여러 학자들에 의해서 지적되어 왔다. 즉 1962~1979 기간 중 우리나라에서는 부존자원이 부족하고 인구밀도와 인구의 증가율이 높았음에도 불구하고 교육수준의 향상, 기술의 축적 및 생산적인 고용의 증대 등 여러 면에서 좋은 성과를 이룩하였으며, 이로 인하여 우리나라는 급속하고도 상대적으로 평등도가 높은 경제성장을 이룩할 수 있었던 것으로 생각된다.
고도의 경제성장을 가능케 했던 근본원인이 무엇인가에 대하여는 상이한 여러 가지 견해가 제시될 수 있으나, 본고에서는 교육수준의 향상과 연령구조의 변화에 따른 노동력의 질적 수준변화가 큰 요인 중의 하나였다는 전제하에 교육수준, 노동경력이 노동력의 생산성에 미치는 효과를 분석함과 동시에 노동력의 질적 수준변화가 경제성장에 어느 정도 기여하였는가를 거시적 관점에서 살펴봄으로써 인구개발계획 및 장기경제개발계획에 필요한 정책적 판단자료를 제시하고자 한다.
