Professor Hwang’s Research A Lighthouse of Korea’s Life Science Technology
Have you ever heard a story about an herb of eternal youth of the Chinese Emperor Qin Shi Huang? There is a modern herb of eternal youth. You know what? That is Korean Professor Hwang Woo-seok’s human embryonic stem cell. He processed his embryonic stem cells research until 2005 called as a hero by Koreans. However, there were problems on his academic essay, and one researcher who was working with him insisted that Professor Hwang’s research is fabricatedat, people no more trusted Professor Hwang; moreover, government prohibited his research, so that he could not research embryonic stem cells any more. Today, many mass media are reporting that countries like England, America, and so forth are helping and supporting their scientists to research embryonic stem cells because stem cells are key of the future life science technology; however, Professor Hwang’s research is still almost stopped. Therefore, government should approve and support Professor Hwang because insistence that Professor Hwang is liar is not true, his research can cure an incurable




Some would insist that Professor Hwang’s research has an ethical problem, and say that Professor Hwang’s research is the same as killing a life. This insistence might true, but they are wrong because the purpose of Professor Hwang’s research is saving a life, not killing a life. In other words, his research may kill some ova, but it will save much more life than sacrificed ova. Today, a new type of technology has been developed, so scientists can make stem cells without ovum. Therefore, these worries are little bit exaggerated.
In summary, the future of Korea’s life science technology is depends on Professor Hwang’s research. Therefore, government should let him research, but just allowing is not enough; furthermore, government should assist and support him because professor Hwang’s research is true, and his technology will not only cure patients who have an incurable disease, but also bring enormous value to Korea’s industries. About 4 years have passed since his research
