Digital technology is rapidly transforming the landscape of art. But this transformation is not merely about tools or formats—it questions how we encounter art, and more fundamentally, how we exist in relation to it. Today’s interface-based art forms—platform cinema, VR theatre, metaverse opera—no longer invite interpretation. They provoke, immerse, and demand reaction. The audience is no longer a reflective subject, but a user navigating emotions pre-structured by systems.
This paper introduces the concept of media-narrative content to explore how narrative continuity collapses into modular fragments and how interpretation is displaced by sensory immediacy. Through a close examination of Bandersnatch, Draw Me Close, and The End of Night, the study reveals how music and narrative have been reconfigured into emotional triggers, altering the very ontology of the receiver.
Theoretical insights are drawn from Lev Manovich’s notion of modularity, and broader educational implications are connected to UNESCO’s forthcoming discussions on immersive digital learning. Yet, this is not a eulogy for interpretation—it is a call to reclaim the pause. Between sense and thought, between reaction and reflection, there lies a fragile space where education can still begin.
This study proposes that arts education must recover that space—not to return to old models, but to cultivate a new kind of attention. To draw emotional flows, to recompose broken moments into meaning—these are no longer aesthetic options but ethical tasks. The question lingers: are we prepared to educate not just for skills and scores, but for the soul of the world?
