잉고 마우러의 종이 소재를 활용한 조명에서 나타나는 팝아트 표현기법 연구 (A study of Pop Art Expression Techniques in Lighting using Paper Materials by Ingo Maurer)

초록

(연구배경 및 목적) 잉고 마우러는 20세기 후반부에 조명디자인 산업에 획기적인 새로운 장을 열면서 조명디자인의 중요한축을 이끌어 왔다. 종이는 빛의 철학자인 잉고 마우러가 가장 좋아하는 재료 중의 하나이다. 그는 사물에 대한 의미를 탐구하고기능이나 실용주의를 넘어서는 울림을 주는 방법을 찾음으로써 일상적인 사물들을 변화시켜왔다. 이에 잉고 마우러의 독특한디자인의 출발점을 찾아보고 여러 나라에서 나타나는 사회적 다양성을 조명디자인 산업에 접목하여 다양한 접근을 시도해 보고자 한다. 연구 목적은 잉고 마우러의 종이 소재를 활용한 조명에서 나타나는 여러 나라의 독특한 융합문화 표현 특성을 확인하여 그의 창의적인 관점에서 본 팝아트 표현기법을 해석하는 것에 있다. (연구방법) 첫째, 세계 여러 나라 문화를 종이로 표현해서 완성된 조명디자인의 논리를 이해하기 위하여 잉고 마우러가 영감을 받고 영향을 받은 다양한 언어들인 일본문화와 노구치, 브란쿠시 조각, 오래된 아프리카 가면문화, 알렉산더 칼더의 작품을 연구한다. 둘째, 조명디자인의 새로운 융합문화의 표현을종이 소재를 사용하여 완성 시켜 온 잉고 마우러의 논리들을 분석하고, 그가 가지고 있는 팝아트의 창의적인 관점을 적용하여세계 여러 나라에서 지역별로 나타난 팝아트의 특징을 정리한다. 셋째, 잉고 마우러의 창의적인 관점에서 본 팝아트 디자인 표현을 찾기 위해 종이를 소재로 하는 마모 누치 시리즈 작품 중에서 12점을 선정한다. 넷째, 12개의 조명 들을 유럽, 미국, 일본, 아프리카를 주제로 하는 4개의 카테고리로 분석한다. (결과) 잉고 마우러의 창의적인 관점에서 본 팝아트 표현기법은 팝아트의자유로운 형식으로 나타났다. 형태적인 면에서 여러 나라의 융합문화 차용과 재현, 체험적인 면에서 대중적이고 일상적 요인, 의미적인 면에서 가벼운 즐거움을 주는 풍자적 특성이 파악되었다. (결론) 본 연구에서는 잉고 마우러의 종이 소재를 활용한 조명에서 나타나는 여러 나라의 독특한 융합문화 표현 특성을 확인하여 잉고 마우러의 창의적인 관점에서 본 팝아트 표현기법을분석한 결과, 세계 여러 나라의 문화가 서로 독특한 특성을 표현하면서 융합문화의 다양한 표현들이 팝아트의 특성으로 나타났으며, 문화가 서로 섞이고 빛과 어울리면서 발현되는 저항의 힘과 새로운 창조의 기쁨들이 발견되었다. 마지막으로 잉고 마우러의 종이를 사용한 조명디자인 연구를 적용하여 우리 고유의 문화유산인 한지에 관한 폭넓은 연구가 이루어지길 기대해 본다.

영어초록

(Background and Purpose) Ingo Maurer has led an important axis of lighting design by opening a ground breaking new chapter in the lighting design industry in the late 20th century. Paper is one of the favorite materials of Ingo Maurer, a philosopher of light. He has changed daily objects by exploring meanings of everyday objects and ways to make them impress beyond function or pragmatism. This study would find the starting point of his unique design and make various approaches, integrating social diversity appearing in various countries into the lighting design industry. This study aims to investigate his unique observed pop art expression techniques by identifying the unique convergence cultural expression characteristics of various countries in his lighting using paper materials. (Method) First, this study investigates various languages that inspired and influenced Ingo Maurer, such as Japanese culture, Noguchi’s sculpture, Brankushi’s sculpture, old African mask culture, and Alexander Calder’s works to understand the logic of lighting design that has completed the expressions of various cultures around the world using paper. Second, it analyzes the logic of Ingo Maurer, who has completed the expressions of a new convergence culture of lighting design, using paper materials and summarizes the characteristics of pop art by region in many countries around the world through his perspective of pop art. Third, 12 pieces are selected from the MaMo Nuchies series that use paper to find Ingo Maurer’s observed pop art design expressions. Fourth, 12 lighting fixtures of MaMo Nouchies series are analyzed into four categories under the theme of Europe, the U.S., Japan, and Africa. (Results) Pop art expression techniques from the creative point of view of Ingo Mauer appeared as a free form of pop art. The borrowing and reproduction of the convergence culture of several countries in terms of form, popular daily factors in terms of experience, and satirical characteristics that give light pleasure in terms of meaning were identified. (Conclusions) In this study, as a result of analyzing pop art expression techniques from the creative perspective of Ingo Maurer by checking the unique fusion culture expression characteristics of various countries in lighting using paper materials of Ingo Mauer, the cultures of various countries around the world expressed unique characteristics of each other, and various expressions of convergence culture emerged as characteristics of pop art, and the power of resistance and joys of new creation were discovered as cultures mixed with each other and mingled with light.
Finally, hopefully, it this will lead to extensive research on Hanji(Korea Traditional paper), our own cultural heritage, by applying Ingo Maurer's paper-based lighting design research.
