초록

This study analyzes the color properties and harmonic tendencies of tinted autumnal leaves and then develops color palettes of these types. To this end, it measured and analyzed the colors of the leaves of five trees of four species at the peak of their fall foliage. The following results were obtained: by summarizing theories on post-modern color harmony, it has established objective criteria for analyzing color harmony trends in autumn leaves; the number of colors measured in autumn leaves varies according to the degree of foliage coloration, while the number of colors is not proportional to the time of fall foliage in all tree species; a high number of colors measured in autumn leaves does not necessarily mean a high number of color harmony types; the number of differently colored leaves on a tree is not proportional to the number of color harmony types; even yellow and red leaves of the same tree species differ in the number of colors, color harmony types, and the number of color harmony types; the colors measured in a single autumn leaf, regardless of the tree species or the degree to which the leaf is tinted, are unambiguous in hue and value, hue and chroma, and one property other than them has a strong tendency to be similar or demonstrate unambiguity in harmony; various color palettes of similar types and unambiguous harmony types can be derived from tinted autumnal leaves; although autumn leaves have a common color harmony tendency regardless of species and time of year, the color palette can be developed completely in a different manner; the visual prominence of fall foliage is not a result of contrast between leaf colors, but rather a result of chroma or hue contrast with the background.
