판소리 흥미 연구 서설 -확인과 일탈의 길항을 중심으로- (A Introductory Study of the Interest in Pansori)

초록

이 연구는 동일한 사설의 반복에 따른 익숙함이 어떻게 수용자에게 흥미를 갖게 만드는가라는 근본적인 문제의식에서 출발하였다. 이를 위해 상업적 성격을 갖는 판소리를 대상으로 본질적․연행적 측면에서 그 흥미를 구명하고자 하였다. 판소리의 이중성, 즉 사설의 고정성과 연행의 개방성에 주목함으로써, 이러한 상반된 자질이 전혀 다른 방향의 흥미를 낳는 동인임을 가설로 설정하고 각각의 측면에서 흥미의 문제를 살펴보았다.
먼저, 판소리 사설의 고정성, 도식성에서 확인의 흥미가 발생하는데, 이때 확인의 흥미는 수용자의 경험을 통해 이미 습득․저장된 내용을 조회하고 확인하는 과정에서 발생하는 익숙함과 관련된다. 이는 기존 정보와 조회하는 가운데 기대를 충족해가는 즐거움을 추구하는 것으로, 반복이라는 기제에 의해 내용이 강화되어 주입되는 효과를 갖는다. 따라서 확인의 흥미는 이미 합의된 사회적 가치를 재확인하고 공동의 문화에 동참하여 사회 구성원을 결속하게 하는 이해 공유의 기능을 수행한다.
반면, 판소리 연행의 개방성, 유동성은 일탈의 흥미를 낳는데, 이러한 일탈의 흥미는 정해진 사설에서 벗어나 즉흥적인 변개에서 비롯된다. 사건 진행의 급격한 변화를 통해 내용상의 일탈과 청관중과의 거리에 변화를 가져오는 것이다. 따라서 일탈의 흥미는 창자와 수용자의 직접적인 관계 형성에서 이루어지는 소통 기반을 바탕으로, 참여자간의 정서적 일치, 체험의 동질성, 친밀감 등을 도모한다.
확인의 흥미와 일탈적 흥미는 각각 내용적 차원과 형태적 차원에서 소통과 공유를 지향하는 친교적 자질을 갖고 있다. 또한 구성원 전체 혹은 연행에 참여하는 집단을 대상으로 이들의 결속을 도모하는 공통된 측면이 있다. 이처럼 판소리는 기대의 충족에 따른 확인, 변화를 통한 일탈이라는 상반된 자질의 공존과 길항 속에서 궁극적으로 구성원의 결속을 지향한다. 판소리 흥미의 본질과 그 문화적 의미가 바로 여기에 있다.

영어초록

This study started from the fundamental and critical mind how familiarity which results from the repetition of same texts makes a receiver interested. In order to prove this, I chose Pansori which has a commercial characteristic as the object of this study and tried to clarify the interest from the respect of essence and performance. As I focused on the dualism of the Pansori which consists of the fixation of texts and the openness of performances, I formed the hypothesis that those contrary features bring about interest from totally different directions and researched the problem of the interest from each standpoint.
First of all, the interest of confirmation stems from the fixation and the schema of Pansori texts. It is related with the familiarity which results from the process of inquiring and confirming the contents that have already been acquired and stored through the experience of the receiver. The receiver pursues pleasure which he or she satisfies anticipation. Through this process, the contents are strengthened and infused by the repetition. Therefore, the interest of confirmation implements the common ownership of understanding which unites the members of a society by reaffirming social value which has already been come to the agreement, joining common culture.
On the other hand, the openness and the fluidity of the Pansori performances result in the interest of deviation, which comes from improvised alteration, not from fixed texts. In other words, the radical change of procedures of events causes the deviation of the contents and the distance with audiences and viewers. So, the interest of deviation has its roots in the communication from forming direct relationship between a speaker and a receiver and contrives emotional harmony, homogeneity of experience and intimacy.
The interest of confirmation and the interest of deviation have intimate features which aim at communication and joint ownership in the dimension of contents and in the dimension of form respectively. Also, there's a common point which promotes the unity of all members of the group or the particular group members which participate in the performance. In this way, the Pansori ultimately devises the solidarity of members in the coexistence and antagonism of conflicted features, that is, the confirmation by satisfaction of anticipation and the deviation through changes. Here are the essence and the cultural meaning of the interest of the Pansori.
