사그라다 파밀리아 성당과 한국교회 건축물의 교차점에 관한 소고 (A Study on the Intersection of Sagrada Familia Cathedral and Korean Church Architecture)

초록

본고에서 필자는 사그라다 파밀리아 성당을 살펴보고 한국교회에 적용할 수 있는 점을 찾아보았다. 그 이유는 종교건축물의 꽃인 사그라다 파밀리아 성당은 건축공학에 많은 영향을 주었을 뿐만 아니라, 기독교의 건축물로 이해할 수 있는 요소들이 많기 때문이다. 그동안 건축공학적 측면에서 한국교회 건축물에 관한 문제점들을 꾸준히 지적되었다. 한국교회가 대형화 획일화되면서 실용적인 면만 강조한 나머지 주변의 건물과 조화롭지 못하게 존재하고 있으며, 성서적 신학적 의미를 담지 못하는 건축물이라는 것이다. 그리고 한국교회 건축물이 감성적인 면을 고려하지 못하고 있다. 이것은 미학적 인식과 관련이 있다. 그래서 이 논문에서는 우선 헬무트 쉬비어의 예배학을 통해서 미학적인 인식이 예배와 교회 내부에서 어떻게 작용하는지를 고찰해 보았다. 설교와 관련된 행위들을 기호학과 관련해서 보았을 때, 예배와 관련된 모든 것들을 미학적으로 접근할 수 있다. 이러한 요소를 잘 나타내 주고 있는 종교건축물은 바로 사그라다 파밀리아 성당이다. 그래서 필자는 안토니 가우디의 생애와 그의 작품들을 살펴보았다. 비록 그가 가톨릭 신자였지만, 한국교회가 그와 그의 건축물에서 배울 점들이 분명히 있다. 그는 40일 금식기도를 할 정도로 신앙심이 깊었고, 그의 작품에는 ‘자연’과 ‘종교’라는 주제로 인류사에 커다란 업적으로 남을 건축물들을 남겼다. 그리고 그의 건축물에는 항상 사회적 약자를 위한 시설이 있었다. 이 연구를 통해서 필자는 건축물이 미학적으로 하나님의 창조 신비를 담아서 사람들에게 전달할 수 있다는 점, 한국교회가 친환경적 건축물과 에코-라이프를 추구해야 이유, 그리고 사회적 약자를 위한 교회의 디아코니아적 요소를 말하였다. 그런데 사그라다 파밀리아 성당에서 배울 수 있는 점은 바로 빛을 활용하는 스테인드글라스이다. 기독교 역사에서 스테인드글라스는 교회건축과 함께 해 왔다. 한국천주교는 초기 선교부터 성당이 있는 곳마다 스테인드글라스를 활용하였다. 이점이 사그라다 파밀리아 성당과 한국교회가 서로 소통할 수 있는 점이다. 왜냐하면 빛은 신학에서 매우 중요한 주제이기 때문이다. 이 논문에서는 이점에 관해서 자세히 다루었다. 이 논문의 필자는 한국교회가 그동안 지적되었던 교회 건축물의 한계를 극복하고, 강요가 아닌 미학적으로 한국사회에서 복음의 소통이 이루어지기를 소망하였다.

영어초록

In this paper, the author has studied the Sagrada Familia Cathedral and found out what can be applied to Korean churches. The reason is that the Sagrada Familia Cathedral, the flower of religious architecture, has not only had a great influence on architectural engineering, but also has many elements that can be understood as Christian architecture. In terms of architectural engineering, problems with Korean church architecture have been pointed out time and again. As Korean churches have become larger and more uniform, they have emphasised only practical aspects and thus exist in a way that is not in harmony with the surrounding buildings, and they are buildings that do not contain biblical and theological meanings. In addition, Korean church architecture does not consider emotional aspects. This has to do with aesthetic perception. Therefore, in this paper, I first examined how aesthetic perception works in worship and within the church through Helmut Schwier's liturgy. If we look at the acts related to sermons in relation to semiotics, we can approach everything related to worship aesthetically. The religious architecture that best represents these elements is the Sagrada Familia Cathedral. So I studied the life and work of Antoni Gaudi. Although he was a Catholic, there are certainly things that the Korean Church can learn from him and his buildings. He was so devout that he fasted and prayed for 40 days, and his works left behind buildings that will remain as great achievements in human history with the themes of 'nature' and 'religion'. And his buildings always included facilities for the socially disadvantaged. Through this study, we discussed how buildings can aesthetically convey the mystery of God's creation to people, why the Korean church should pursue eco-friendly buildings and eco-living, and the diaconal elements of the church for the socially disadvantaged. But what we can learn from the Sagrada Familia is stained glass, which uses light. Stained glass has been part of church architecture throughout Christian history. The Korean Catholic Church, since its early missionary work, has used stained glass wherever it has a church. This is where the Sagrada Familia and the Korean Church can communicate. This is because light is a very important theme in theology. This paper discusses this point in detail. The author of this paper hopes that the Korean Church will overcome the limitations of church architecture that have been pointed out so far, and that the Gospel will be communicated aesthetically rather than pressurize in Korean society.
