연극공간의 이론적 분석틀 - 퍼포먼스 관점에서의 모색 (The Theoretical Analysis Framework of Theatrical Space)

초록

본 논문은 연극공간을 ‘퍼포먼스로서(as performance)’접근한다. 즉, 연극공간은 활동이 없는 사물이 아니라 실천과 행위로서 고려된다. 따라서 연극공간이 무엇을 행하고, 그것이 다른 사물이나 존재와 어떻게 상호작용을 하는지, 그리고 그것이 다른 사물이나 존재와 어떤 관계를 맺는지를 탐구하는 것이 중요하다. 이처럼 본 논문은 연극공간이 모종의 퍼포먼스를 한다는 가정에서 출발한다. 이와 같은 연극공간의 퍼포먼스를 체계적으로 고찰하기 위해 본 논문은 연극공간의 분석틀을 이론적으로 모색하고자 한다. 이런 연구문제를 수행하는 과정에서 본 논문은 연극공간의 사례를 ① 광장공간과 ② 극장공간으로 구분하여 다룰 것이다. 그리고 광장공간은 로마포럼, 중세 광장, 르네상스 광장을 중심으로, 그리고 극장공간은 그리스 극장, 로마극장, 이태리식 극장(théâtre à l’italienne)을 중심으로 사례를 들겠다.

영어초록

This essay approaches the theatrical space as performance. It considers the theatrical space not as an inactive object but as an active practice and activity. We, therefore, need to investigate what the theatrical space does, how it interacts with other objects or beings, and how it relates to other objects or beings. As such this essay begins with the premise that the theatrical space does certain performance in a very significant way. To investigate systematically the performance of theatrical space, this essay attempts to find the analysis framework of theatrical space from the theoretical aspect. In the process of investigation, this essay studies several examples of theatrical space, dividing it into ① square space and ② theatre space that have been the chief places of theatrical performance historically. The square space includes Roman Forum, Medieval Street or Square, and Renaissance Square, and the theatre space covers Greek theatre, Roman theatre, and théâtre à l’italienne.


The above analysis framework is composed of three important areas: theatrical space, its way of experience, and the meaning level of experience. The theatrical space constructing a theatrical experience can be investigated by dividing it into performance space, spectator space, and additional space. Number ① in the above diagram means that theatrical space and performance interact each other in such a way that the theatrical space summons the special performances of play and spectator, and the performances of play and spectator, in turn, influence on the nature of theatrical space. Number ② in the above diagram means that the theatrical space is experienced in special ways by the spectators. This experience can be classified into the observing gaze and the performative participation according to the physical and psychological distance between performance space and spectators, and into the defined spatial practice(experience) and the self-created spatial practice(experience). Number ③ of the diagram means that the experience of theatrical space has the meanings from the perspective of aesthetic/philosophical and social/political dimensions in large.
