초록

‘틀을 넘어서의 인문학’이라는 제목의 본 논문은 과학철학의 관점에서 산업혁명 이래의 제2기계시대로서 새로운 융합시대의 인문학의 의미와 가치 지향에 대해 논했다. 과거 차축시대의 철학이 자연철학과 인문철학을 함께 바라보았다면, 오늘날의 학문은 모든 영역에서 전문화와 가치중립의 기치 하에 분과학문 위주로 연구되고 있다. 역사적으로 과학의 발전은 인문학에도 영향을 주어왔다. 그리고 인문학 역시 과학에 상상적 영감을 불어넣어주었다. 이점에서과학과 인문학은 상보적이라고 할 수 있다. 현실적으로도 자기 고착을 벗어나는 자유로운 창의융합을 해낸다면 플랫폼 자본주의 시대에 인문학은 위기에서벗어나 새로운 기회가 될 수도 있을 것이다.
제1장은 역사적으로 과학의 발전은 인문학에도 영향을 주어왔다. 인문학 역시 과학에 상상적 영감을 불어넣어주었다. 이점에서 과학과 인문학은 상보적이라고 할 수 있다. 우주내 존재의 잠시성을 통하여 지식 견문의 유한성과 상대성을 논했다. 과거의 지식은 절대적이지 않음을 말했다. 과학관점에서 볼 때그 까닭은 존재 자체가 지닌 사물의 ‘입자-파동’ 이중성, 스펙트럼의 파장 스프레드, 그리고 인식 주체의 인식 능력의 한계와 해석학적 편향성에 의해 본 모습을 온전히 바라보는 것이 어려움을 말했다. 그러므로 연구자는 자기 지식의확고함에 대한 고집에서 벗어나 유연하고 겸손한 자세가 요구된다.
제2장은 이분법의 탈피와 초월을 논했다. 세계는 보이는 세계뿐만 아니라 보이지 않는 세계도 있다는 것을 알 때에 비로소 전면적인 세계 이해가 가능해진다. 현대물리학은 바로 차별·배제·편향의 이분법적 세계인식이 사물의 실체이해와 거리가 있다는 것을 보여준다. 그런데 필자가 지난 15년간 중장기 과제로서 연구해온 동아시아의 주역, 노장, 불교 사유에 대한 과학철학적 재해석은모두 세계가 지니는 양면성을 음양, 유무, 색공으로 설명한 점에서 주목된다.결국 동아시아 사유에 대한 재해석은 다원주의 신학자 존 캅(John Cobb)이 말한 인류의 문화유산에 대한 비판적 검토와 수용과도 맥락을 같이 한다.
제3장은 과학기술 주도의 시대에 인문학의 두 길인 도의 인문학과 기의 인문학에 대해 논했다. 이 둘중 총체성, 원본성, 최종성을 담보하는 도의 인문학이 우선되어야 과학기술에도 도움이 되는 상생의 인문학으로 지속가능한 성장이 가능하다고 하는 점을 서구 지성사의 발전과정 속에서 논했다.
제4장에서는 융합의 핵심 화두인 ‘연결’을 키워드로 삼아 연결에 도움 되는연구자적 자세를 논했다. 결국 인문학이 흥성하려면 시대를 반영하되 과거의지식과 이해에 매달리지 않는 자기 혁신과 변화, 그리고 외부적으로 다른 영역과의 부단한 소통이 중요하며, 이를 위해서는 기존의 틀을 넘어 창의적 자유정신의 자기고양이 중요하다. 부분을 알되 편린과 조각에서 멈추지 않고 돌아와온전한 전체로서 바라보기’, 이것이 필자가 추구하는 ‘틀을 넘어서의 인문학하기’이다. 이렇게 자기의 틀을 벗어나는 자유로운 상상과 공감의 인문융합을 해낸다면, 현재 인문학의 위기상황은 새로운 기회로 다가올 수도 있을 것이다.

영어초록

This paper, titled "Humanities 'Beyond the Frame'" discussed the meaning and value orientation of humanities in the new era of convergence as the Second Machine Age since the Industrial Revolution from the perspective of scientific philosophy. While the philosophy of the Axial age in the past looked at natural philosophy and the philosophy of the humanities together, today's studies are being studied mainly in academic discipline under the banner of specialization and value neutrality in all areas. Historically, the development of science has also influenced humanities. And humanities have also provided imaginary inspiration to science. In this respect, science and humanities can be said to be complementary. In reality, if we achieve free creative convergence beyond self-fixation, humanities may become a new opportunity out of crisis in the era of platform capitalism.
Chapter 1 discussed the finiteness and relativity of knowledge and experience through the transitory nature of existence in the universe. It has been said in the past that knowledge is not absolute. From a scientific point of view, the reason was that it was difficult to fully see what was seen by the ‘particle-wave’ and duality of objects themselves, the wavelength spread of the spectrum, and the limitations and hermeneutical biases of the subject's cognitive ability. Therefore, researchers are required to have a flexible and humble attitude, breaking away from stubbornness in the firmness of their knowledge.
Chapter 2 discussed the breakaway and transcendence of the dichotomy. The full understanding of the world becomes possible only when we know that there is not only a visible world but also an invisible one in the world. Modern physics shows that the perception of the dichotomous world of discrimination, exclusion, and bias is far from understanding the reality of things. However, the scientific and philosophical reinterpretation of the thoughts of I Ching(周易), Laotzu(老子), and Buddhism in East Asia, which I have studied as a mid-to-long-term project for the past 15 years, is noteworthy in that it explains the duality of the world through Yin·Yang(陰陽), Presence or Absence(有無), and SeKong(色空). In the end, the reinterpretation of East Asian Thought is in line with the critical examination and acceptance of human cultural heritage mentioned by pluralist theologian John Cobb.
Chapter 3 discussed two paths to humanities in the era of science and technology: the humanities of Tao(道) and that of Ji(技). Among these two, it was discussed in the course of the development of Western intellectual history that sustainable growth is possible with a win-win humanities that helps science and technology only when the humanities of Tao(道), which guarantee totality, originality, and finality, must be prioritized.
Chapter 4 discussed the researcher's attitude helpful for connection by using 'connection', the key topic of convergence, as a keyword, 'beyond the frame, beyond the boundary'. Ultimately, in order for humanities to flourish, self-innovation and change that reflect the times but do not cling to past knowledge and understanding, and constant communication with other areas externally are important. For this, it is important to have a creative free spirit beyond the existing framework. This is "humanities of 'beyond the frame'" that I pursue: Knowing the part, but looking back at it as a whole without stopping at fragments and pieces. If the humanities convergence of free imagination and empathy beyond one's frame is achieved, in reality, humanities will be able to escape the crisis and gain new opportunities in the era of platform capitalism and in the Second Machine Age.
