초록

(연구배경 및 목적) 현대 건축은 고정된 규범적 의미를 넘어 사용자 경험과 사회적 상호작용을 통해 끊임없이 새롭게 구성되는 관계적 장(場)으로 이해되고 있다. 특히, 미셸 푸코의 헤테로토피아 개념은 이질적 시간과 장소가 중첩되는 대안적 공간으로, 현대 건축 공간의 다원성과 유동성을 설명하는 중요한 틀을 제공한다. 이러한 개념은 단순히 물리적 공간을 넘어 다양한 관계와 의미를 생성하는 비표상성의 개념으로 확장된다. 본 연구는 푸코의 헤테로토피아 개념을 바탕으로 비표상성의 속성을 도출하고, 이를 SANAA의 건축 사례를 통해 현대 건축 공간의 다층적 관계성과 의미를 고찰하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 통해 현대 건축 공간의 본질적 특성과 동시대 건축 담론에 새로운 관점을 제시하고자 한다. (연구방법) 본 연구는 헤테로토피아 개념으로 현대 공간의 비표상적 특성을 고찰하는 것이다. 연구의 범위는 헤테로토피아와 헤테로토폴리지의 여섯 가지 원리를 현대 공간 개념으로 도출하고, 비표상적 관점에서 공간의 이질성과 다층적 관계를 탐구하는 데 한정된다. 연구 방법은 푸코의 관련 자료를 통해 헤테로토피아 공간 개념의 정립과 들뢰즈의 '차이' 사유를 바탕으로 비표상적 공간 특성을 도출하고 이를 통합한 헤테로토피아 공간 개념의 비표상적 특성을 유동적 주체성, 다층적 시간성, 혼종적 경계성으로 제시한다. 이후 SANAA 건축의 대표 사례를 선정하여 배치, 구성, 경계 요소 등을 분석하고, 이를 통해 SANAA 건축 공간에 내재한 헤테로토피아의 비표상적 특성을 규명하는 것이다. 최종적으로 본 연구는 기존 건축 담론에서 벗어나 이질적이고 상호작용적인 공간이 의미를 재구성하는 과정을 탐구하여 현대 공간에 대한 새로운 해석틀을 제안하고자 한다. (결과) 사례분석을 통해 SANAA 건축이 유동적 주체성·다층적 시간성·혼종적 경계성을 고르게 구현하며, 프로그램 중첩과 사용자 참여를 통해 비표상적 공간과 이질적 요소의 공존을 실현함을 확인하였다. (결론) 현대 건축은 근대적 규범과 단일 표상을 넘어 다원성과 불확정성을 수용하며, 사용자·프로그램·역사·문화가 복합적으로 교차하는 장이 된다. 본 연구는 SANAA 사례를 헤테로토피아 관점으로 현대 건축 공간의 비표상적 특성을 고찰하여 유동적 주체성·다층적 시간성·혼종적 경계성이 고정된 의미를 초월함을 확인하였다. 이를 통해 사용자 참여와 프로그램 가변성이 공적/사적 경계를 유연화하며, 이질적 시간과 장소가 중첩되는 대안적 공간이 형성된다. 궁극적으로 현대 건축은 비표상적 특성을 통해 다층적 해석과 창의적 경험을 촉진하며, 이질적 요소의 공존을 이룰 수 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 마지막으로, 본 연구가 제시한 이론적 논의와 사례분석은 비표상적 건축 개념을 확장하기 위한 기초로서, 후속 연구의 다양한 방법론적 적용 가능성을 시사하며 미래 공간의 이질적 요소의 공존과 상생의 방향을 이해하기 위한 기초자료로서 역할을 할 수 있을 거라 기대한다.

영어초록

(Background and Purpose) Modern architecture is understood as a relational field that is constantly reconfigured through user experiences and social interactions, transcending fixed normative meanings. In particular, Michel Foucault's concept of heterotopia provides an important framework for explaining the plurality and fluidity of modern architectural spaces as alternative spaces where heterogeneous times and places overlap. This concept extends beyond mere physical space to encompass the idea of non-representationality, which generates diverse relationships and meanings. This study aims to derive the properties of non-representationality based on Foucault's concept of heterotopia and to explore the multilayered relationships and meanings of modern architectural spaces through the architectural examples of SANAA. Through this, the research seeks to present new perspectives on the essential characteristics of modern architectural spaces and contemporary architectural discourse. (Method) This study explores the non-representational characteristics of modern space from the perspective of heterotopia. The scope of the research is limited to deriving the six principles of heterotopia and heterotopology into the concept of modern space and investigating the heterogeneity and multilayered relationships of space from a non-representational viewpoint. The research method involves theoretically establishing the concept of heterotopia through relevant materials by Foucault and deriving the spatial characteristics of non-representation based on Deleuze's notion of 'difference.' Additionally, it integrates the spatial meanings of heterotopia with non-representational characteristics to present elements such as temporality, hybrid boundaries, and fluid subjectivity. Subsequently, representative cases of SANAA architecture are selected for analysis based on layout, composition, boundary elements, and other characteristics to identify the non-representational traits inherent in SANAA's architectural spaces from a heterotopian perspective. Ultimately, this study aims to propose a new interpretive framework for modern space by examining how heterogeneous and interactive spaces reconstruct meaning, moving beyond existing architectural discourse.(Results) Through the case analysis, it was confirmed that SANAA’s architecture realizes fluid subjectivity, multiple temporality, and hybrid boundaries, thereby creating a non-representational space and enabling the coexistence of heterogeneous elements through overlapping programs and user participation. (Conclusions) Modern architecture embraces plurality and indeterminacy, becoming a complex intersection of users, programs, history, and culture. This study examined SANAA's cases from a heterotopian perspective, revealing non-representational characteristics of contemporary architectural spaces: fluid subjectivity, multi-layered temporality, and hybrid boundaries. These characteristics transcend fixed meanings, flexibilize public/private boundaries through user participation and program variability, and create alternative spaces where heterogeneous times and places overlap. Contemporary architecture thus promotes multi-layered interpretations and creative experiences, enabling the coexistence of heterogeneous elements. This research provides a foundation for expanding non-representational architectural concepts and understanding the symbiosis of diverse elements in future spaces.
