핑루(平路)의 「인공지능 보고서」에 대한 소고 - 포스트휴먼의 가능태와 작가의 문학적 상상력을 중심으로 - (A Study on Ping Lu’s Artificial Intelligence Report - Author’s literary imagination depictingthe post human potential voice and future society -)

초록

대만 작가 핑루(平路)의 「인공지능 보고서(人工知慧紀事)」는 1990년대 초반 이 작품이 발표된 후 오랫동안 환상 혹은 SF 소설로 이야기되었다. 하지만 근래 들어 급속하게 발전한 인공지능 기술과 새로운 미래 전망으로부터 2020년 초두에 다시 보는 이 작품은 예전과는 다른 현실과의 관계망 속에서 새로운 독해를 가능하게 해준다.
핑루는 미래 사회의 한 단면을 그려본 이 소설에서도 오늘날의 사회 문제를 놓치지 않고 다루고 있으며, 포스트휴먼 시대를 맞아 도래할 새로운 생명 개념과 윤리 문제 등, 진지하게 고민하고 사유해 볼 주제들을 제시하고 있다. ‘특이점’을 지나 월등한 존재가 되어버린 로봇에 의해 살해당한 인간 주인의 모습은 폭발적으로 성장한 인공지능에 의해 인류가 존재적 위험에 직면할 수도 있음을 경고해온 미래학자들이 우려하는 상황의 극단적 예이기도 하다.
또한 이 작품에서는 남성이 여성을 탄생시키는 고전서사에서 보이던 남녀 관계의 설정이 반복되지만 시간이 지남에 따라 양자의 관계가 서서히 뒤바뀐다. 우월한 능력을 갖게 된 로봇 여성에 의해 인간 남성의 삶은 파멸을 맞고, 로봇은 급기야 자신이 새로운 남성 생명체를 창조하려는 시도를 한다. 여기서는 성관계가 필요 없는 새로운 형태의 타자와의 결합과 번식 가능성이 도모된다. 이렇게 「인공지능 보고서」에서는 트랜스휴먼 여성에 의한 이성 창조의 서사가 열리며 젠더와 종간의 역학 구도를 뒤흔든다.
인공지능 로봇과 함께 할 미래 사회를 내다본 작가의 치밀한 예측과 기지 넘치는 상상력이 빛나는 소설이지만, 플롯 전개상 부분적으로 단절감을 느끼게 하는 것은 필요한 대목마다 결여된 로봇의 논리적 주장이 담긴 대사와 화자의 언술과도 관련이 있다. 작가 역시 인간이기에 초인간적인 감각과 논리를 구현할 길이 없는 것으로, 포스트휴먼 시대에 나타날 인간을 초월한 존재의 지성과 내면의 실체를 다루는 텍스트의 근본적 한계－그 온전한 인식과 표현의 불가능성－를 드러낸다고 할 수 있다.

영어초록

Taiwanese author Ping Lu’s Artificial Intelligence Report was told as a fantasy or science fiction novel in the early 1990s when the novel was published. However, from the recent development of artificial intelligence technology and new future prospects, this work, which is read again at the beginning of 2020, enables a new reading in a different network with reality.
Ping Lu is not missing the social problems of today in this novel as well that depicts an aspect of the future society, and presents themes to seriously consider and think about, such as the concept of new life and ethical issues that will arrive in the post‐human era. The image of a human owner killed by a robot that has become superior to humans beyond ‘singularity’ is also an extreme example of a situation that concerns future scientists who have warned that humanity may face ontological risks due to the explosive growth of artificial intelligence.
Also, in this work, the setting of gender relations seen in the classic narrative of men giving birth to women is repeated, but the relationship between them gradually changes over time. The life of a human male is destroyed by a robot woman with superior abilities, and at last, the female robot herself/itself attempts to create a new male creature. This is completed in a unique way of combining conditions that she considers ideal to finally implant the object in the artificial uterus through imagination, and the attempt is the possibility of combining and breeding with new types of others who do not need sex. Hence, in this Artificial Intelligence Report, the narrative of creation of other sex by trans‐human woman opens and shakes the dynamics between gender and species.
It is a novel that stands out from the author's close predictions and the wit of imagination, but the inevitable intrusion of sense of partial disconnection in the development of the plot is also related to the description of (artificial robot’s) logical arguments lacking in passages required of them.
As the author is also human, so there is no way to embody superhuman sense and logic, she is said to just reveal fundamental limitations of the text exploring the reality and the inside of the intelligence of human transcendence being that will appear in the post human era the impossibility of the full expression.
