심양 코리아타운 ‘서탑’과 한국문화 : 심양한국주간과 2010중국글로벌한상대회의 경우 (Shenyang Koreatown ‘Xita’ and Korean Culture in China: Based on: ‘Shenyang Korean Week’ Event and the Sustainability of Korean Wave)

초록

심양 서탑(西塔)은 중국내 가장 큰 규모의 코리아타운(Korea-town)이다. 이곳은 전통적인 조선족의 집거지에서 중국진출을 도모하는 한인교민들의 집거지로 공간의 의미가 확대되면서 한국의 문화가 형성되고 있는 ‘중국 속 한국’으로 불리고 있다. 이런 점에서 본고는 심양 서탑이 코리아타운으로서 갖는 위상을 살펴보고 코리아타운의 한류와 한국문화 전파에 대한 노력들을 살펴보는 글이다. 그러나 근래 몇 년 사이 한국의 경기 침체현상들이 서탑 상권에도 부정적인 영향을 끼치면서 서탑 역시 활로의 모색을 요구받아왔다. 서탑의 구성원들과 심양시의 노력으로 자구노력을 펼쳐오는 과정에서 심양한국주간행사도 진행되고 있다. 본고는 현재 진행 중인 대표적인 한류행사인 ‘심양한국주간’ 행사의 내용 분석을 통해 심양한국주간이 한국문화 확산에 어떤 위치를 점하고 있는가에 대해 한정적으로 살펴보고, 향후 新한류로의 지속성내지는 확산 가능성이 있는지, 있다면 어떤 부분에 대한 개선이 필요한지에 대해 논하고자 한다. 특히 심양한국주간 외에도 2010년에 한정적으로 개최된 ‘2010중국글로벌한상대회’는 심양은 물론 동북3성, 나아가 중국전역에 새로운 한국문화의 바람을 일으키고 있는 경제통상 행사이자 대형 문화예술 이벤트가 된 바 있다. 심양한국주간은 비록 중국 심양시 인민정부가 심양시에 대한 투자유치를 목적으로 제안한 형식의 행사이고, 2010중국글로벌한상대회는 세계한상들의 유대강화와 네트워크를 구축하기 위한 국제적인 비즈니스행사였지만, 두 행사는 KBS전국노래자랑, KBS열린음악회와 같은 대형문화공연, 한식세계화를 위한 한식체험 등 경제활동을 수반하는 부대행사들을 함께 진행함으로써 심양은 물론 중국사회에 ‘新한류’ 바람을 일으키는데 일조하고 있다. 본고에서는 이러한 심양한국주간, 2010중국글로벌한상대회행사의 개최 과정과 행사의 성격, 주요내용들을 살펴봄으로써 코리아타운 서탑의 한국문화 전파활동이 동북지역을 비롯한 중국사회에 미치는 영향을 고찰하려고 한다. 본고는 연구를 위해 구술사 채록 방식에 따라 심양한국주간과 글로벌한상대회의 개최과정에서 역할을 한 현지 관계자와의 면담을 통해 구술증언을 채록하였다. 그들의 증언과 관련 자료들을 통해 실제 행사가 진행되던 과정들을 살펴봄으로써 심양한국주간의 개최 의미와 지속가능성에 대해 생각해볼 수 있으리라고 본다.

영어초록

Shenyang Xita (西塔) is the largest Koreatown in China. The implications of Xita become gradually extended from a traditional collective residential location for ethnic Koreans in China (chaoxianzu) into a collective residential location for South Koreans who plan to go to China for business or other purposes, so it is called ‘a small Korea in China’ enough to create Korean culture in China. In this regard, this study aims to examine the current positions of Shenyang Xita as a Koreatown in China as well as the efforts of China’s Koreatowns to circulate Korean wave and culture in China. Over the last few years, however, the economic slump phenomena of South Korea have negative effects on the local market of Shenyang Xita, so that Xita has also faced challenges of exploring into new way out of economic difficulties. It is the 'Shenyang Korean Week’ that is such a local event of Xita as held in a collaborative effort of Xita's residents and Shenyang municipal authorities to drive their self-help activities. This study seeks to analyze the content of ‘Shenyang Korean Week’ event, a current representative event of Korean wave working in China to make limited examinations into actual presence of Shenyang Korean Week in propagation of Korean culture into Chinese people. Then, this study intends to discuss potential sustainability or propagation of said local event to boost a new Korean wave in China, and discuss what requires improvement in terms of said event,if any.
‘Shenyang Korean Week’ and ‘The Global Korean Business Convention 2010 China’ are economy and trade events and large-scale cultural artistic events that bring about a new wind of Korean culture around Xita, Shenyang.
Shenyang Korean Week is a local event proposed by people's government of Shenyang city with a view to attract foreign investments in this city, but both events are accompanied with side functions involved with economic activities such as large-scale cultural performance (KBS Nationwide Song Contest, KBS Open Music Concert, etc) and sampling party for the globalization of Korean foods, so that they contribute to creating a wind of ‘new Korean wave’ in Chinese society as well as Shenyang Xita. The purpose of this study is to discuss the opening process, characteristics and major contents of Shenyang Korean Week event, so that it can examine potential effects of Koreatown Xita's Korean culture propagation activities on overall Chinese society beyond the northeast region of China. In order to achieve these purposes, this study adopted oral history record method to have an oral interview with a field supervisor who played a role in opening Shenyang Korean Week and The Global Korean Business Convention 2010 China. It is expected that this interview-based examination of actual process where said events were carried on will allow us to possibly think about the implications and sustainability of Shenyang Korean Week opened as a local event of Koreatown in China.
