초록

제2차 세계대전을 거치면서 아시아는 탈식민과 냉전에 대한 사안이 별개의 차원에서 궁리될 성질의 문제가 아니라 ‘탈식민‒냉전’이란 프레임이 요구되는바, 한국사회는 샌프란시스코 체제와 ‘65년 체제’를 중층적으로 살펴봐야 한다. ‘탈식민‒냉전’의 정치역사적 쟁점을 지닌 ‘65년 체제’는 샌프란시스코 체제의 지평에 놓여 있기 때문이다. 이 둘의 관계는 이후 ‘탈식민 냉전’과 ‘65년 체제’에 대한 한국문학의 응전을 톺아보는 데 요긴한 공부거리를 제공한다. 그리하여 이 글은 그동안 ‘65년 체제’와 관련한 한국문학에 대한 논의를 바탕으로 하되, ‘탈식민‒냉전’에 대한 한국문학의 응전을 쟁점화하여 살펴본다. 이를 위해 최인훈의 「총독의 소리 」 연작, 하근찬의 단편 및 장편 『야호(夜壺) 』, 선우휘의 장편 『물결은 메콩(강)까지 』를 주목해 보았다.
‘문자적 재현’과 ‘구연적 재현’이 어우러진 풍자의 서사 전략화를 통해 최인훈은 「총독의 소리 」 연작에서 ‘65년 체제’를 그만의 서사로 쟁점화한다. 이것은 ‘65년 체제’를 배태한 샌프란시스코 체제는 물론, 샌프란시스코 체제를 튼실히 떠받치고 있는 유럽발(發) 근대가 제국주의와 식민주의의 속성을 띠면서 비서구 세계를 향해 문명과 계몽의 미명 아래 식민성의 통치로 구체화되고, 동아시아와 한반도의 경우 근대 민족국가의 정치경제적 혼돈의 와중 냉전 세계의 질곡 그 냉엄한 국제질서 속 아주 위태로운 위기에 직면해 있음을 지구적 시계(視界)로서 비판적 성찰을 수행한 것이다.
하근찬의 문학은 제국 일본의 식민주의와 연결된 가운데 한국전쟁 관련 서사를 ‘65년 체제’와 연동하여 이해했을 때 한층 더욱 그의 문학에 대한 쟁점적 접근이 가능하다. ‘65년 체제’가 거느린 반공주의와 냉전 질서는 『야호 』의 ‘탈식민‒냉전’에 대한 작가의 서사적 재현에서 비판적 성찰보다 반공주의와 냉전 질서에 흡수 및 수렴하는 정치의 예속화로부터 자유로울 수 없음을 반증한다. 『야호 』의 ‘65년 체제’에 대한 문학은 이런 면에서 작품의 서사적 완결도와 다른 차원에서 한국문학의 쟁점을 구성한다.
‘탈식민‒냉전’의 프레임에서 ‘65년 체제’를 살펴볼 때 베트남전쟁은 매우 중요한 ‘사건’이다. 선우휘의 『물결은 메콩강까지 』는 ‘65년 체제’를 이루는 베트남전쟁을 ‘탈식민‒냉전’의 시각으로 다루되, 반전평화의 시각을 적극화한 것도 아니고, 그렇다고 베트남전쟁에 동참한 국가의 통치를 전면 옹호 내지 비판하는 것도 아닌, 구체적 정치의 맥락이 결여된 윤리로 귀결된다.
이렇듯이 ‘65년 체제’에 대한 한국문학의 대응은 중층적일 수밖에 없으며, 이것은 한국문학에 대한 쟁점적 접근을 요구한다. 이것은 또한 한국문학의 래디컬하고 쟁점적 논의들이 ‘새로운 세계문학’을 적극 구성하는 원대한 과제를 실현하는 일이기도 하다. 이후 이 문제의식을 더욱 벼리기 위해 ‘65년 체제’에 대해 한층 더 쟁점적 논의가 한국문학에서 이어지길 기대한다.

영어초록

Through World War II, Asia requires a frame of ‘Decolonization- Cold War’ rather than a separate issue of decolonization and the Cold War, so Korean society should look at the San Francisco system and the ‘65-year system’. This is because the ‘65-year system’, which has political and historical issues of ‘Decolonization-Cold War’, lies at the horizon of the San Francisco system. The relationship between the two provides a useful study for discussing the response of Korean literature to the ‘Decolonization-Cold War’ and the ‘65-year-old system’. Therefore, this article is based on the discussion of Korean literature related to the ‘65-year system’, but it examines the Korean literature's response to the ‘Decolonization- Cold war' as an issue. To this end, we paid attention to Choi In-hoon's series of <the sound of the governor>, Ha Geun-chan's short stories and novel <Yaho(야호)>, and Sun Woo-hwi's novel <wave to Mekong (river)>.
Through the strategy of satire's narrative, which combines ‘literal representation’ and ‘oral representation’, Choi In-hoon makes the ‘65-year system’ an issue as his own narrative in series of <the sound of governor>. This is a critical reflection of the global clock that not only the San Francisco system, but also the modern European system, which firmly supports the San Francisco system, is embodied in colonial rule under the name of civilization and enlightenment toward the non-Western world, and East Asia and the Korean Peninsula face a crisis in the cold world amid political and political and economic chaos.
Ha Geun-chan's literature is linked to colonialism in imperial Japan, and when the narrative related to the Korean War is understood in conjunction with the ‘65-year system’, a more contentious approach to his literature is possible. The anticommunism and Cold War order under the ‘65-year system’ disprove that the author's epic reenactment of <Yaho>'s ‘Decolonization-Cold War" cannot be free from anticommunism and subjugation of politics that absorbs and converges into the Cold War order rather than critical reflection. In this respect, <Yaho>’s literature on the ‘65-year system’ constitutes an issue of Korean literature in a different dimension from the epic completeness of the work.
Vietnam War is a very important event when looking at the ‘65-year system’ in the frame of ‘Decolonization-Cold War’. Sun Woo-hwi's <wave to the Mekong River> deals with Vietnam War, which forms a ‘65-year system’, but does not activate the view of antiwar peace, nor does it fully defend or criticize the rule of the country that participated in Vietnam War.
As such, the response of Korean modern literature to the ‘65-year system’ is bound to be multilayered, which requires a contentious approach to Korean morern literature. This is also a task that Radical and contentious discussions of Korean modern literature realize the grand task of actively constructing ‘new world literature’. Since then, it is hoped that more controversial discussions on the ‘65-year system’ will continue in Korean modern literature to further raise awareness of this problem.
