초록

Yi Kwang-su's novel Regeneration is based on a kind of moral dichotomy. Of course, the narrative depicting the fallen and damaged world attracts attention. Popular interests also respond sensitively to high values, such as self-sacrifice based on love. Through the notion of popular sublime, popular culture is a desire for the transcendent. The modern popular fiction faithfully reflects the drive of resacralization in the post-scared era. The reaction to the desacralization of the Enlightenment revives the claim of the sacred. Thus extreme dichotomy of darkness and light, salvation and curse appear in melodramatic fiction. In the flow of Yi Kwang-su's literature, we will look at the context in which the scared and transcendent is emphasized from Regeneration. The disenchantment of the Enlightenment is understood as the key to defining modernity. Through this process of disenchanting the enchanted world, the secular and neutral modern world is separated from the world in which the sacred is present. On the other hand, the reappearance of the sacred in the secular world can be defined as reenactment. In this paper, attention is paid to the way in which disenchantment and reenactment take place.
