유현목 감독의 <오발탄>에 나타난 시각적 진술에 대한 연구 (A study of visual statement shown on the director Yoo Hyun Mok's films -Focused on the film, 'An Aimless Bullet'-)

Yoo Hyun Mok, a renowned movie director, was diagnosed for cerebral infarction along with diabetes in 2007. He had been under medical treatment since then, but he passed away in the Dongguk University Ilsan Hospital on June 28th, 2009. As it happens to others, his films are now being re-evaluated after his death. His films have been more evaluated and studied for a long time compared to the films of other directors. For this reason, his films have to be re-evaluated. Since the studies of his films have been focused on a narration, this study is going to be based on the visual statements which means the elements of mise-en-scene.

The main elements of a film can be divided into two, narrative(story) and spectacle. However, if only one is more focused and the other is not, a balanced development cannot be reached. Until now, our films have been more focused on narratives than spectacle. However, the director Yoo was very interested in the visual statements through the right association of mise-en-scene elements and profundity and symbolism of one shot and one shot framed in camera. In addition, he did not neglect his study of sound statements in his films that he attained to perfection of meaning, symbolism and contrapuntal use of sound.

Accordingly, a communication with the audience by visual statements through the mise-en-scene elements will be discussed in this study, rather than a communication with the audience by actors' dialogues in his films. Among his many films, the visual statement of his main film <An Aimless Bullet> will be discussed.
