초록

동시대인들에 의해 제작된 현대미술에 있어 더 이상의 중심과 주변, 고급과 저급에 대한 경계는 없다. 주체에 대한 다중적 사유가 가능하고 고착적 의미의 구조가 파괴된 미술에서는 과거의 어떠한 규범도 필요치 않다. 단지 요구되는 것이 있다면 예술작품으로서 볼 수 있는 이론적 해석의 잣대 즉 철학만이 요구되는 것이다. ‘지각되는 것에서’에서 ‘의미하는 것’으로 전환된 현미술계는 매체의 확장과 장르간의 혼합을 적극적으로 이뤄내는 역사적 경계가 없는 세계다. 서구의 이성철학을 기반으로 한 미학은 제단할 수 없는 미술의 흐름을 비교적 계량화한 이론으로 이끌어 왔다. 현대에 들어 컨템포러리의 영역이 확장된 후 모호한 경계와 분리할 수 없는 접점에 대해 아직 명제화시키지 못했다. 그러나 모든 창작은 사전적 용어 이전에 탄생된다. 시대를 막론하고 존재했던 분류와 구분 사이, 그 경계의 지점에 서 있던 시각예술창작자들의 제언에는 이미 많은 새로운 사고의 도출이 시작되어왔다. 그 중 숭고하고 저속한 것에 대해 완전히 이분화할 수 없는 인간의 기본 욕망에 대해 많은 시각예술가들은 저마다의 조형언어로 많은 발언을 제기해왔다.
본고에서는 컨템포러리아트(Contemporary Art)의 속성 중 현대시각예술에서는 특징적으로 보이는 고급문화(雅)와 저급문화(俗)에 대한 창작자의 예술 작품을 실례로 살펴 보고 아속(雅俗)이란 단어의 컨템포러리 아트를 위해 동아시아 미학의 잠재적 가치를 드러내는 일은 매우 중요한 지점에 있다. 물론, 많지 않은 현대미술 작품 분석을 통해 본 우아함(고급)과 세속됨(저급)에 대한 미학적 용어로써 아속(雅俗)개념이 심도 있게 설명해낼 수 있는 지, 비평개념으로서의 득실을 고려해 볼 필요가 있다. 그러나 아속공상(雅俗共賞)은 개념 및 비평은 새로운 출구가 될 수 있다. 그리고 이에 대한 출로는 오히려 아속의 구도를 넘어선, 시각예술과 문화를 다른 방식으로 분할하고 배치하는 새로운 구도에 대한 사유를 통해서만 가능할 것이며, 역사의 시간적 종적 단계로서의 시점이 아닌 횡적 가치 분배와 인식은 현대의 한계성을 드러난 미학용어에 적적한 대안이 될 것이다.

영어초록

There are no more boundaries between the center and the periphery, the higher and the lower in contemporary art. There is no need for any norms of the past in art where multiple reasons for the subject are possible and the structure of fixed meaning is destroyed. Only if there is a demand, only the standard of theoretical interpretation, that is to say the philosophy of artwork, is required. The current art world, which is transformed from 'being perceived' to 'meaning', is a world without historical boundaries that actively fulfills the media expansion and the mixture of genre. Aesthetics based on the western philosophy of reason has led to a relatively quantified theory of the flow of art that cannot be judged altogether. In modern times, after the expansion of contemporary territory, it has not yet been clarified about ambiguous boundaries and inseparable contacts. But all creation is born before a dictionary term. Many new ideas have already begun to be found in the proposals of visual arts creators who have stood at the boundary between classifications and divisions that existed from generation to generation. Many of the visual artists have made many statements in their formative language about the basic desire of human beings that cannot be totally differentiated about the sublime and vulgar.
In this article, I will try to give an example of the creators' works of art about the high culture (ya) and the low culture (su), which are characteristic in the contemporary visual arts. Argument about the sublime and the vulgar is not limited to the past, but it plays a key role in contemporary visual arts. Unfortunately, contemporary visual arts terrains are difficult to find proper and complete words because they are familiar with Western art education and art theories. Therefore, every art creator tries to reveal the intersection of high culture and low culture with diverse language. It is very important to disclose the potential value of East Asian aesthetics for these contemporary visual art forms. Of course, it is necessary to consider whether the concept of simultaneousness of sublime and vulgar can explain in depth the elegance (advanced) and the secular (low grade) as an aesthetic term through the analysis of few contemporary art works. However, this critical concept of the simultaneousness of the sublime and the vulgar can be a new exit. And the outcome is only possible by thinking about a new composition that divides and arranges the visual arts and culture in a different way, beyond the existing confrontational composition. The distribution and recognition of the horizontal value, not the point of view as a temporal and vertical stage of history, will be a viable alternative to the aesthetic terminology that reveals the limitations of modern times.
Already, scholars have uncovered and verified the various contemporary aesthetic ideas inherent in classics. It is not much different from their discovery and research methods that this article has derived the simultaneousness of sublime and vulgar from the philosophy of East Asia.
As a researcher today, I think it is very natural to see the intersection of modern aesthetics characterized by diversity and the open philosophy of East Asia. All scholarship and thought begin with revealing the category and nature of their own source. Humanism is taking place again in today's artistic realm. Therefore, I believe that the discovery and verification of aesthetic ideas in East Asian philosophy will present a new category of aesthetics with more research and feed in the future.
