초록

북한 기독교에 대한 편향된 연구의 영향 속에 있는 한국교회는 북한 교회를 대화 상대로 인정하지 않으며, 점령식 북한 선교에 함몰되어 왔다. 그러나 한반도 분단역사 가운데에서 형성된 북한체제와 종교정책의 특수성을 고려하지 않은 채 북한교회의 정체성을 편향된 정보에 의존하여 규정하는 것은 북한 기독교와의 대화와 협력 관계를 차단하는 근본 원인이 된다. 오늘날 남북 대결이 한층 격화되고 대화와 교류가 전면 단절된 상황에서 한반도 평화와 화해를 위해 한국 교회에게 요청되는 일은 북한의 기독교에 대한 편견을 버리고 이남과는 다른 체제와 역사적 경험 가운데서 이룩한 북한 기독교의 특성과 차이를 신학적으로 인정하고 객관적으로 접근하는 노력이다.
이 글은 북한 기독교를 특수한 문화와 사상이 기독교와 만나 형성 된 기독교 사회주의의 한 형태로 새롭게 이해할 수 있는 가능성에서 출발하고자 한다. 이를 위해 북한 교회를 토착종교의 한 형태로 이해함으로써 북한 기독교에 대한 배타성을 대화 가능성으로 전환할 수 있는 근거를 폴 틸리히(Paul Tillich)의 기독교 사회주의 이론에서 발견하려 한다. 틸리히의 기독교 사회주의는 남북 기독교가 경험한 역사적 상황의 극명한 차이와 이에 따른 신학적 노선의 차이를 각 자 주어진 상황에 대한 신학적 응답으로 보아야할 문제로 인식하는 포용적이며 대화적 입장을 지지한다. 이를 위해, 이 연구는 분단 전후 남북한의 기독교 경험의 차이가 발생하게 된 역사적 과정을 검토하고, 북한의 기독교가 남한과는 다르게 북한의 사회주의 노선 하에서 펼쳐진 종교관이 종교 사회주의와의 관련성이 있음을 논증한다. 북한식 기독교 사회주의의 관점으로 해명되어질 북한 교회는 남한의 교회가 부정해야 할 대상이 아니라, 기독교 에큐메니칼 운동의 영역으로 수용하고 연대해야 할파트너쉽의 관계임이 드러나게 될 것이다. 결론에서, 북한교회에 대한 부정적 인식에서 벗어나 남북교회가 교회일치운동으로 연합하게 될 때 교회는 한반도의 평화와 통일을 위해 기여할 수 있는 길이 열리게 됨을 밝히고자 한다.

영어초록

Under the influence of biased research on North Korean Christianity, the Korean church has not recognized the North Korean church as a partner in dialogue and has been mired in occupation-style missions to North Korea.
However, relying on biased information to define the identity of the North Korean church without considering the specificities of the North Korean system and religious policies that have been shaped by the history of the division of the Korean peninsula is a fundamental cause of blocking dialogue and cooperation with North Korean Christianity. In today's context of escalating confrontation between North and South Korea and a complete breakdown in dialogue and exchange, the Korean church is called upon to abandon its prejudices against North Korean Christianity and to theologically acknowledge and objectively approach the distinctive characteristics and differences of North Korean Christianity, which a different system and historical experience have shaped.
This article will begin with the possibility of a new understanding of North Korean Christianity as a form of Christian socialism shaped by the intersection of Christianity with a unique culture and ideas. To this end, it seeks to find in Paul Tillich's theory of Christian socialism a basis for understanding the North Korean church as a form of indigenous religion that can transform the exclusivity of North Korean Christianity into the possibility of dialogue.
Tillich's Christian socialism advocates for an inclusive and dialogical stance that recognizes the stark differences in the historical circumstances experienced by Christianity in the North and South and the resulting differences in theological lines as a matter of theological response to each given situation. To this end, this study examines the historical processes that led to the differences in the experience of Christianity in North and South Korea before and after the division of the country and argues that the relevance of religious socialism to North Korean Christianity is that North Korea's view of religion unfolded under the socialist line, as opposed to South Korea's.
Through the lens of North Korean-style Christian socialism, the North Korean church will be seen not as something to be denigrated by the South Korean church, but as a partnership that should be embraced and brought into the realm of the Christian ecumenical movement. In conclusion, it will be shown that the church can contribute to the peace and unification of the Korean peninsula when it moves away from negative perceptions of the North Korean church and unites the churches of the North and South in an ecumenical movement.
