흉노의 칠공예: 몽골 흉노의 중국 한漢 양식의 공예취향과 제작 (Lacquer Crafts of the Xiongnu: Taste and Production of Crafts of the Xiongnu in Mongolia in Style of Han Dynasty)

초록

이 글에서는 칠나무 자생지역이 아닌 몽골 초원지대에서 형성된 칠문화에 대해 살펴보았다. 훈련화된 전문 장인 집단에 의해 제작되는 칠기를 향유하는 칠문화가 흉노사회에서 형성되었던 배경과 그 의미를 살펴본 것이다. 이를 위해 먼저 흉노가 중국 칠기를 수용하였던 역사적 배경을 살펴본 다음 흉노 무덤에서 출토된 중국제 칠이배를 비롯한 칠기, 한식 칠제 마차, 그리고 장송용으로쓰인 칠관의 제작지와 유통경로를 살펴보았다.
몽골 흉노 무덤에서 출토된 한대칠기는 상림원이나 촉군서공 등 황실관할의 공방에서 제작된것으로 한과 흉노와의 정치적 관계에 의해 공급된 것으로 파악하였다. 그러나 일반인의 무덤 유적에서도 한대칠기가 출토되는 것으로 보아 흉노사회에 유입된 중국칠기 전체가 정치적 관계에 의한조공이나 선물에 의한 것으로 보기에는 어렵다고 파악하였다.
흉노의 엘리트귀족 계층의 무덤에서 출토된 중국식 마차와 칠관漆棺의 제작 기법과 도상을 살펴본 결과, 중국이 아닌 몽골 초원에서 제작되었을 가능성을 제시해 보았다. 골모드-Ⅱ 유적 1호의무덤의 마구장식와 마차 부속구에 흉노의 신화적 동물 도상이 세트화되어 일정하게 표현된 양상을 확인하였다. 그리고 장송용의 용도로 사용하기 위해 몽공 초원 현지에서 제작한 것으로 판단하였다. 칠관의 경우에는 이동가옥인 전통가옥 게르의 벽체 구조의 문양인 격자문과 하늘의 꽃인 사엽문이 장식된 것을 확인하였다. 그리고 이 장식문양을 사용하는 재질에서 흉노 사회의 위계가 반영된 것을 살펴본 바 있다. 이를 통해 흉노는 단순히 한에서 주어진 물품을 소비하는 것이 아니라자신들의 전통적인 사회 양식안에서 한의 사치품을 응용하여 사용하였음을 알 수 있다.

영어초록

This study investigated the lacquer culture formed grassy plain in Mongolia, not in the colony of lacquer trees. In other words, this study examined the background in which the lacquer culture of the enjoyment of the lacquerware manufactured by a group of trained professional artisans was formed in the society of the Xiongnu and its meaning. To do this, first, the Xiongnu examined the historical background of the acceptance of the Chinese lacquerware and then examined the production location and distribution channel of lacquerware like lacquer ear cups made in China excavated in the tombs of the Xiongnu, of lacquer carriages and lacquer coffins used for escorting a funeral.
The lacquerware in the Han Dynasty excavated in the tombs of the Xiongnu in Mongolia were manufactured at the workshop under the Imperial jurisdiction, like Shànglínyuàn or Shǔjùn Xīgōng, and it was judged that they were supplied by the political relations between the Hans and the Xiongnu.
However, from the excavation of lacquerware in the Han Dynasty in the tomb ruins of ordinary people as well, it was judged that it would be difficult to see all the Chinese lacquerware flowing in the society of the Xiongnu as tributes or gifts by political relations.
As a result of an examination of the production technique and symbols of Chinese carriages and lacquered coffins excavated in the tombs of the elite aristocratic class of the Xiongnu, this study suggested the possibility that they were manufactured on grassy plains in Mongolia, not in China. This study found the aspects in which the sets of the mythical animal symbols were expressed in the harness fittings and wagon accessories of Tomb No. 1 of Gol Mod-Ⅱ Remains in a certain way. In addition, it was judged that they were manufactured on grassy plains in Mongolia for escorting a funeral. It was found that lacquered coffins were decorated with the lattice pattern, the shape of the wall structure of the Mongol Ger, the traditional mobile house, and the four-pointed leaf pattern, the pattern of the flower of the sky. This study noted that the use of these decorative patterns reflected the hierarchy of the society of the Xiongnu in terms of materials. Through this, the Huns did not simply consume the goods given by the Han dynasty but applied the luxury goods of the Han Dynasty in their traditional social style.
