초록

현대 산업사회에서 편안하고 좋은 것을 많이 누리고자하는 욕구는 대량생산과 대량소비의 발단이 되었고, 이로 인해 각종 자원의 수요가 급격히 증가하였으며, 대량의 폐기물과 환경오염물질들이 배출되었다.
이렇게 심하게 훼손된 자연환경은 지구 온난화와 같은 심각한 부작용으로 인류의 생존과 문명의 지속을위협하는 결과를 초래하고 있다. 이러한 문제들로 전세계는 대체 에너지 개발, 폐기물 처리 등 지구환경을지키고 보호하기 위한 환경정책과 아울러 친환경적제품을 개발하기 위한 다양한 노력과 연구를 진행하고 있다.
이러한 친환경적인 움직임들은 새로운 유행을 만들어내는 패션산업에서도 예외는 아니다. 특히 무분별한사용으로 인한 자원의 고갈 문제, 자연 소재에 대한관심과 친환경적이며 지속가능한 소재 개발에 대한중요성이 부각되는 등 모든 생산제품의 과정에서 생길 수 있는 자연환경의 피해를 최소화하기 위한 노력이 다각도로 진행되고 있다.
본 연구에서는 패션산업에서 빼놓을 수 없는 자연소재의 가죽에 대해 다루고자한다. 가죽은 아주 오래전부터 다양하게 사용되어진 자연의 소재로서 현대에와서는 사치품 또는 고급으로 인식되어 꾸준한 사랑을 받고 있지만, 여러 공정을 거치는 동안 많은 양의유해물질과 폐기물이 발생되어 환경을 위협하고 있다.
이처럼 오랜 기간 동안 인간과 함께 해왔던 가죽이가공 기술의 발달로 인해 환경오염의 주된 원인이 된것은 안타까운 일이다. 이에 지속가능하면서도 친환경적인 가죽소재에 대한 개발 및 논고의 가치가 있다고사료되어 본 연구를 통해 친환경 가죽소재의 다양한사례를 살펴보고자 한다.
우선, 지속가능한 소재로서 가죽이 가진 가능성에대한 현황을 파악하기 위해 패션관련 생산업체에서의활용 사례들을 베지터블 가죽, 재생 가죽, 자투리 가죽 또한 그 밖의 몇몇 사례들로 나누어 조사해 보았는데, 이런 과정을 통해서 환경적인 문제 해결과 다양한 재활용의 가능성 그리고 상품으로서의 가치창출에대한 긍정적인 측면을 발견할 수 있었다.
결국, 가죽이라는 자연의 소재가 앞으로도 꾸준하게환경을 오염시키고 파괴하는 요소들을 배제하는 친환경적인 소재가 되기 위해서는 이를 이용하는 제작자들의 각고의 노력이 필요하다. 또한 친환경적인 가죽소재가 끊임없이 사용되어지기 위해서는 소비자의 미적 욕구를 충족시킬 수 있는 디자인개발에 대한 다양한 연구도 필요한 것으로 사료되었다.

영어초록

The desire to enjoy a lot of comfortable and good things in the modern industrial society was the beginning of mass production and mass consumption, which has led to a rapid increase in the demand for various resources, and a large amount of waste and environmental pollutants have been emitted. The severely harmed natural environment is causing severe side effects such as global warming, threatening the survival of humanity and the continuation of civilization. With these problems, the world is carrying out various efforts and researches to develop eco-friendly products as well as environmental policies to keep and protect the global environment such as alternative energy development and waste disposal.
These eco-friendly movements are no exception to the fashion industry that creates new fashion.
Particularly, the importance of resource depletion due to indiscreet use, interest in natural materials and development of environmentally friendly and sustainable materials are emphasized, and efforts from various angles to minimize the damage of natural environment that may occur during all production is proceeding.
This study would like to deal with leather as a natural material which is essential in the fashion industry. Leather has been used for a long time and widely recognized as luxury or advanced item and steadily loved in modern times. However many harmful substances and wastes during various processing steps are generated and threaten the environment. It is a pity that leather that has been with human beings for such a long time has become the main cause of environmental pollution due to the development of processing technology. For this reason, it is considered to be worth developing and discussing sustainable and environmentally friendly leather materials. And through this study, we will examine various examples of environmentally friendly leather materials.
First of all, to understand the current status of the possibilities of leather as a sustainable material, this study has examined the use cases of fashion related producers in several examples of vegetable leather, recycled leather. Through this process, we were able to find out the positive aspects of environmental problem solving, the possibility of various recycling, and the value creation as a product.
In conclusion, it is necessary for the manufacturers to use their efforts in order for the natural material of leather to continue to be an eco-friendly material that excludes the elements that pollute and destroy the environment in the future. In addition, it is considered that various researches on design development that can satisfy consumers’ aesthetic desires are also needed in order to use environmentally friendly leather materials continuously.
