초록

Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of food intake on changes of dental caries status among early adolescence during one year.
Methods: First grade of one middle school in Daegu city was conveniently selected for the study. Oral examination (baseline and endpoint) and food frequency questionnaire were performed among 224 students who consented this survey. The t-est, ANOVA and ANCOVA were applied to assess the effect of food intake on dental caries status.
Results: Although there were no statistically significant between carbohydrate intakes and mean changes of dental caries, the mean changes of DMFT index were slightily increased as carbohydrate intakes were increased. The more protein and dietary fiber consumed, the less mean changes of DMFT index was observed. In particularly, there were statistically significant differences among female adolescence. Of the micro-nutrients, phosphorus, magnesium and copper intakes significantly increased the mean changes of DMFT index among female adolescence. Adolescence who consumed more vitamin A, C, D, E, K had tendency of lower mean changes of DMFT index during one year, but there were not statistically significant.
Conclusions: This study demonstrated some nutritions were significantly associated with dental caries status. Thus the nutrition should be considered an important factor in caries prevention programs.
