노령층에서 선호되는 이모지의 시각 특성에 관한 신경과학적 연구 (On Visual Characteristics of Emoji Preferred by the Elderly Based on Neuroscience)

초록

SNS를 사용하는 노년층이 해마다 늘고 있다. 노년층의 SNS 사용 환경을 연구하며, 노인들이 선호하는이모지의 특성이 있음을 발견했다. 하지만 노년층이선호하는 이모지에 대한 연구는 시력 저하에 기반하는 한계가 있다. 본 연구는 노년층이 선호하는 이모지가 두뇌 구조와 신경 활동에 대한 보상 메커니즘에따른 것으로 보았다. 따라서 인지 신경 과학의 선행연구들을 바탕으로, 노년층에서 선호되는 이모지의 시각 특성을 신경과학적으로 접근한다. 먼저 노년층들의이모지을 시각적 표현의 특질을 정리했다. 다음으로, 이모지를 인지하는 신경 활동을 바탕으로 노년층이선호하는 이모지의 시각적 특성을 분석했다. 첫째, 선조 피질(Striate Cortex)과 망막(Retina)의 시각 수용체 위축이 노인들의 시감각을 약화시킨다. 둘째, 앞쪽측두엽(Frontotemporal)의 기억 보상은 노인층 방추회(fusiform face area)의 얼굴 인식 결함을 보완한다.
셋째, 더 익숙한 시각 정보를 두뇌가 처리할 때 노년층은 더 호감을 느낀다. 마지막으로 하향식(Top- Down) 인지 처리에서 노인이 선호하는 이모지의 시각적 특성을 분석하고, 아래 세 가지 방향으로 정리했다.
첫째, 비교적 익숙한 언어적 의미 기억이 인지 가능성을 높인다. 둘째, 오피오이드 수용체(Opioid Receptor) 의 활동으로 강한 호감을 얻는다. 셋째, 앞쪽 대상회와 편도체(Amygdala)의 연결은 긍정적인 감정을 지원한다. 본 연구는 두뇌의 시각 정보 처리 메커니즘을통해, 노년층의 신경 보상 메커니즘을 이해하였다. 이를 통해 노년층에서 선호되는 이모지의 시각적 특성을 새롭게 설명했다. 노년층의 시각 구조 연구를 통해노년층이 선호하는 디자인인 방향을 찾는 데 과학적인 도움을 줄 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

영어초록

In SNS, the number of middle-aged and elderly Internet users has increased year by year. The studies on the SNS use environment of the elderly indicate that the emoji preferred by the elderly has certain visual characteristics. However, most of the studies on the design of emoji for the elderly are based on the decline of optical vision of them, which has some limitations.
This study believes that the preference of the elderly for emoji depends on the aging brain structure and the compensation mechanism of some neural activities.
Therefore, based on the previous research on cognitive neuroscience, this study explores the visual characteristics of emoji preferred by the elderly in a neuroscience way. First of all, it summarizes the visual expression characteristics of the emoji that the elderly often uses. Second of all, it analyzes the visual characteristics of emoji preferred by the elderly according to the neural activities of cognizing emoji. The first is that the visual sense of the elderly is weakened by visualreceptors atrophy of primary visual Cortex and retina.
The second is that the memory compensation of frontotemporal makes up for the defects of face cognition in fusiform face area of the elderly. The third is that the more familiar visual information the brain processes, the more favorable the elderly will be. Finally, in the top-down cognitive processing, the visual characteristics of the emoji preferred by the elderly are analyzed in three aspects. First, more familiar semantic memory improves the possibility of cognition. Second, the opioid receptor can be received for more happiness. Third, the functional connection between anterior cingulate cortex and amygdala supports positive effects in the aging process. With the visual information processing mechanism of the brain and the neural compensation mechanism of the elderly, this study reinterprets the visual characteristics of the emoji preferred by the elderly.
It is expected that the design direction preferred by the elderly can be found with the scientific help provided through the research on the visual structure of the elderly.
