조선후기 경상도 지역 양반층의 토지소유규모와 지가의 변동 (The Ownership of Land and Its Prices for the Yangban Class in the Kyungsang Area of Joseon Korea 1590∼1900)

초록

This study empirically analyzes the relationship between the land prices and land ownership during 1590∼1900 Joseon Korea. The old documents of transactions of lands in the Kyungsang (southeastern of Korea) were gathered to build the long run series of land prices, land ownership, and the land transactions. These documents were very valuable in that series of data were consistent for the same land location, and total 529 cases of transactions were examined. The ratio of bought/sold lands was 1.33 for the Yangban (the elites), implying that their lands had increased 33%, compared to the previously owned lands during 1590∼1900. Meanwhile, the ratios of the bought/sold lands were 0.56 and 0.64 for the Sangmin (the commerers), and the Nobi (the slaves). This tells that their lands had decreased 44% and 36% for each class. The Seowon seemed to increase their lands at the fastest rate by 233% for the study period. Thus, the sample period considered could be defined as a period when the land ownership between the classes was polarized toward the accumulation or dis-accumulation. This polarization of land ownership tended to influence the land prices significantly.
