초록

인간은 탄생과 죽음 사이의 많은 시간 속에서 다양한 요소들을 선택하며 살아간다. 그 선택의 가치기준은 사람마다 다르겠지만 결국은 그런 가치기준들이요즘 우리 시대의 사회, 문화, 교육 등의 복잡한 관계속에서 중요한 의사소통의 도구가 된다. 디자인이라는가치도 그중의 하나일 것이다.
현대의 디자인은 더 이상 특별한 영역이 아닌 우리생활에서 모두가 누리는 하나의 문화가 되고 있다. 그러나 현재의 디자인교육은 미술교육, 창의성교육의 일환으로 간주되거나 고등교육기관에서 미시적 차원의결과물을 만들어내는 기술교육으로 인식되고 있다.
그렇다면 우리의 일상생활에서 모두가 누리는 문화로, 그리고 사회적으로 중요한 가치를 가지는 의사소통의 도구인 디자인이란 영역을 발달적으로 가장 중요한 시기인 유아기에 교육활동으로 적용한다면 어떨까? 라는 생각으로 논문을 연구하게 되었다.
본 연구는 디자인의 본질적 가치를 재인식하고, 인간의 삶에서 중요한 발달과정이 이루어지는 유아기에필요한 디자인교육의 이론적 근거를 제시하고자 한다.
따라서 유아기의 중요한 발달적 요소인 인지발달이론 중 피아제(Jean Piaget)와 비고츠키(Lev S. Vygotsky)의 인지발달이론을 살펴보고, 의사소통의 도구로 사용되는 디자인의 개념에 중요한 근거가 되는 상호작용적 관점에서 두 이론을 비교 분석하였다. 또한 디자인의 어원과 디자인교육의 의미를 살펴보고, 유아기의발달적 특성과 그 이론을 근거로 한 유아 디자인교육의 특성, 유아디자인의 일반적, 통합적 특성을 살펴보았다. 그리고 인지발달이론의 상호작용적 관점의 이론과 유아디자인교육의 연계성과 중요성을 제시하였다.
결국, 유아 디자인교육은 유아와 밀접한 그들의 주변 환경과 생활 속에서 스스로 의미를 발견하고, 구조적으로 통합하고 종합하는 구조적 사고이며, 의사소통을 하기 위해 자신의 생각을 구체화 하며 다른 사람들과 상호작용 하는 과정 속에서 디자인의 가치를 배우는데 의의가 있다고 할 수 있다. 즉, 유아 디자인교육은 유아 주변세계에 대한 스스로의 발견과 관찰적경험의 상호작용을 통해 자신의 사고를 만들어 가면서 인간을 이해하고, 자연의 질서를 깨닫고 사랑하며,자아를 존중하는 태도에 큰 영향을 준다. 그렇기 때문에 유아디자인 교육은 디자이너의 육성을 위한 편중된 교육의 일환이 아닌 유아의 자율적 실천과정을 돕는 역할을 해야 한다.
앞으로 인지발달적 상호작용에 근거한 유아의 디자인적 경험이 삶속에서의 중요한 영역이 될 수 있음을알고 유아디자인교육의 실제가 이루어지길 기대한다.

영어초록

People choose to live with various elements between the time of birth and death. The value system of each person’s preference of choice varies but eventually these various standards become vital communication tool in modern people’s culture, society and education.
Design is one of these values.
Modern design is nothing extraordinary but it became part of our culture in today’s society. However,Modern design education is perceived only as artistic,creative education or considered as a tool for bringing outcome of necessary skill sets for vocational purpose in the institutions of higher education.
So, what difference would design bring as a tool that we enjoy as part of our culture and as means of communication in society? And what would applying design for preschooler’s activity education?This question was considered when research took place for this thesis.
The research was based on Piaget and Vygotsky’s Theory of cognitive development and analyzed the interaction between the two theories to define the importance of the design education and the interaction of cognitive development of preschooler in liaison to the importance and significance of the study.
Therefore, in order to support interaction between the two pivotal theories, Piaget and Vygotsky’s cognitive development theories were studied and analyzed for preschooler’s education development which is critical for preschooler’s cognitive development. Also definition and meanings of design and characteristics of preschooler’s development theory which supports the thesis of characteristics of preschooler’s design education and general, integrated characteristics of preschooler’s design education. Lastly, this thesis suggested ties and importance of preschooler’s design education from the perspective of interaction of the two cognitive development theories.
At last, preschooler design education aids children to discover and learn about human nature through behavioral experience received from the environment and to cherish the order of the nature and gives great motivation to love self ego. Therefore, preschooler design education should not be leaned on to train designers only but should aid children to develop healthier way in real life. preschooler’s experience in design should become important part of the preschooler’s life development and practical application should be proposed for the design education for the preschooler.
Further, great anticipation towards preschooler’s designing experience becoming important area of children’s life and application of preschooler’s design education in practical ways in near future.
