컨템포러리 춤에 나타난 컨버전스(Convergence)의 의미와 해석 (The Meaning and Elucidation of Convergence tendencies in Contemporary Dance)

초록

The tendency of convergence that translates to consolidation is an important code not only in the arts, but also in science and the overall modern society. The artistic tendencies of convergence are the evolution and communication of this era. In an era where existence is impossible without a network, the propensity of meaning change that occurs within convergence is one that constitutes sympathy with audiences all over the world. Also, it is not only limited to dance, but extends to all areas of culture suggesting that through this database information, and networking has taken its place. Thus it is an open notion of consolidation that speaks and represents this era.
Convergence is in active progress in the arts. The development of media based on digital technology allowed the sharing of a new language and imagination that transcends the limits of time and space. First is the digital tendency of convergence. It is a feast of graphics utilizing digital dance and media by way of computers on stage. The second is film dance. It combines techniques from 3D animations with dance. Through the Internet and connected web of networks, a film dance that goes beyond any nation or border is devised. The last is media convergence. In an era where combination or transcendence of genre is pursued, comes a new thematic performance with many genres combined. In Korea, Hyo Jin Kim is one of those rare creators whose works adhere to her own independent style. She hovers between reality and illustration to present the truth and distortion of the arts by a constitution of light and movement. Using Media Pasade and 3D Projection Mapping and utilizing even the stage floor as a screen, <Alice‘s Adventures in Wonderland>(2011) opened a new prospect of dance by an active application of media. Encounter of speedy images, music and dance was enough to mesmerize the audience and all of the while confirmed the convergence movement towards popularity in contemporary works.
As these cases show, there can no longer be meaning in a strict divide between truth and fake, or existence and non-existence. With this, the border that defines reality becomes ambiguous and breaking boundaries accelerated. Modern dance representative of a modern society realizes the fantasy called illusion, reverie and continuously pulls them into reality and emphasizes it as a spiritual evolutional product that allows for an alternative world namely the future.
The term "contemporary dance" suggestive of the present reflects its frequent changing properties. The fundamental meaning of convergence is not limited to a dance genre that constitutes sympathy with audiences around the world but can be a confirmation of information and networking’s strong stance with a database that covers all aspects of culture. Thus, the tendencies of Convergence in dance represent the evolution of dance and communication with the audience of this era.
