초록

한국은 고인돌 중심지인데도 정작 고인돌의 기능에 관한 연구는 크게 진전되지 않았다. 고인돌의 발전된 양식이 후대의 방형적석총이라는 사실을 고려하면, 적석총의 기능과 함께 고인돌의 기능도 추론할 수 있는 길이 열린다. 적석총도 고인돌의 구조와 기능에 따라 새롭게 포착할 수 있다. 그러므로 고인돌과 적석총의 상호관계 속에서 제천문화기능을 추론한다.
적석총 가운데 대표적 유적이 장수왕릉이다. 장수왕릉 상부에 건축된 구조물이 향당이나 신전이 아니라 천제당이라는 사실을, 별자리가 그려져 있는 고인돌의 덮개돌과,천정이 하늘로 묘사되어 있는 고구려 고분 벽화의 천정, 그리고 장수왕릉의 세계관을통해서 밝힐 수 있다. 장수왕릉은 천지인 원방각(○□△)의 세계관을 이루고 있는 까닭에 상단의 구조물은 하늘에 천제를 올리는 천제당일 수밖에 없다.
적석총과 고인돌은 무덤이자 즉위 공간이라는 사실을 함께 포착해야 한다. 왕의장례에 이어지는 것이 새 왕의 즉위이다. 왕이 즉위하려면 일정한 통과의례를 거쳐야한다. 통과의례의 구조에 따라 세상으로부터 격리되는 어둠의 시련을 겪고 새 왕으로거듭 나게 되는 것이다. 분리기의 격리 공간이 장수왕릉의 묘실 공간이자 탁자형 고인돌의 석실이다. 이 공간에서 분리기를 통과함으로써 새 왕으로 재탄생하는 것이다.
당시에 왕은 천손이자 천왕으로 인식되었을 뿐 아니라 천제권을 행사하는 제사장이었다. 새 왕은 적석총 위의 천제당 또는 하늘을 상징하는 고인돌의 덮개돌에 올라 천제를 올림으로써 천인합일의 신성한 천제권을 확립하고, 하늘에서 내려옴으로써 천손강림 의례를 재현하여 천왕의 신성한 권위를 확보한다. 따라서 고인돌과 적석총은 왕의 즉위를 알리는 천제 뿐만 아니라, 농공시필기의 정기적 천제를 올리는 구조물이었다. 이 구조물은 다수 군중이 동참할 수 있는 구릉에 입지하여 국중대회와 같은 축제도가능했다.
천제 공간의 발전은 곧 천제의 발전과정이었다. 지표의 원형 천제단에서 발전한것이 하늘과 땅이 상하 분리된 입체적 천제단형 고인돌이다. 고인돌의 천지 구조가 더 확대되고 발전된 것이 천지인 구조의 대형 피라미드형 적석총이다. 천제공간이 지속되면서 발전된 것은 민족시조가 천왕이며 천손족이라는 역사의식이 공유된 까닭이다. 그러므로 한국은 최다 고인돌 보유국이자 대형 적석총 보유국이며 국중대회 규모의 축제적 제천문화를 지속적으로 누렸던 문화주권 국가라 할 수 있다.

영어초록

Although Korea plays an important role as the center of dolmens, there has not been much progress in research on the function of dolmens. The fact that Jeokseokchong or stone mound tombs built later are the developedform of dolmens suggests the way to infer the function of dolmens along with the functions of stone mound tombs. In addition, new aspects of the stone mound tombs can be found as the structure and function of thedolmen is examined. Therefore, the function of harvest ceremony is inferred considering the interrelationship between dolmens and stone mound tombs.
The tomb of King Jangsu is the best-known relic among stone mound tombs. The cover stone of the dolmen with the constellations drawn on it, the ceiling of the Goguryeo tomb murals depicting the ceiling as thesky, and the world view represented in the tomb of King Jangsu reveal the fact that the structure built on the top of the tomb of King Jangsu is Cheonjedang, not Hyangdang or a shrine. As the tomb of King Jangsurepresents the worldview of Heaven-Earth-Human in the form of circle, square, and triangle, the structure at the top is surely Cheonjedang, which is a place for holding a ritual for the worship of the heavenly gods.
It should be noted that dolmens and stone mound tombs are both a tomb and a space for enthronement. The king’s funeral is followed by the accession of the new king. In order for a king to ascend the throne, he must go through a certain rite of passage. By passing through the rite of passage, he goes through the ordeal of being isolated from the world and is reborn as a new king. The isolation space of the separator is both theburial chamber of the tomb of King Jangsu and the stone chamber of the table-type dolmens. A new king is born by passing through the separator in this space.
At that time, the king was not only recognized as a heavenly son and a heavenly king, but also a priest who exercised the power of heaven. The new king establishes the divine power of heaven unifying man and heavenby holding a ritual for the worship of the heavenly gods standing on either Cheonjedang on stone mound tombs, or the cover stone of dolmens, which represent the heaven. When the king descends from the heaven, hereproduces the ritual for the son coming down from the heaven to secure the divine authority of the heavenly king. Therefore, dolmen and stone mound tombs were structures not only for holding rituals for the heavenlygods for announcing the king’s ascension, but also regularly performing the rituals at the beginning and end of agricultural work. This structure was located in Gunung, where a large crowd could participate, making it possible to hold festivals such as national competitions.
The development of the heavenly space indicated the process of the development of the heavenly world. Developed from the original Cheonjedan of the earth’s surface is a three-dimensional altar-type dolmen,in which the heaven and the earth are separated up and down. The dolmen’s heaven and earth form became more expanded and developed, which lead to the creation of a large pyramid-type Jeokseokchong. The heavenly space developed and continued to be succeeded due to the historical consciousness that the heavenly king is the nation’s ancestor, and the nationis the son of the heavenly king. Therefore, it can be said that Korea is a country with the largest number of dolmens and Jeokseokchong in a large size, and a cultural sovereign country that continued to enjoy the festive heavenly culture on a national scale.
