경주 금령총 묘사의 특징과 의미 (Characteristics and Meaning of the ancestral rite in front of Geumryeongchong Tomb in Gyeongju)

초록

금령총 호석 주변에서 대호와 발형기대를 비롯해 부뚜막형토기, 소형토기, 바둑돌, 토령, 동․식물유존체등 다양한 유물이 출토되었다. 이러한 유물들의 배치 형태와 조합 양상을 검토하여 의례적 특징과 의미를 논의해 보았다.
금령총과 관련된 제사용 토기는 35건으로 확인되었으며 대부분의 자료를 묘사라는 관점으로 이해해 볼수 있다. 하지만, 구체적인 출토정황을 살펴보면, 호석을 설치한 후 고분 축조과정에서 실시된 바닥정지의례와 고분 축조가 끝난 뒤 시행된 묘사 유물이 함께 매납된 것으로 이해해 볼 수 있다.
금령총 묘사에서 다수의 정치 대호와 소형토기, 동․식물유존체가 함께 확인되는데, 대호+발형기대+소형토기+동․식물을 함께 매납하는 경우와 동․식물만 매납되는 경우, 토기가 매납되는 경우로 구분할 수 있다.
이러한 양상들은 제사의 시기와 횟수 외에도 묘사에 진설된 음식의례와 관련있는데, 망자를 위해 향을 피우고, 소리(음악)가 동반되면서 화려한 문양이 시문된 토기에 다양한 수생동물들을 공헌한 제사로 추정해 볼수 있을 것이다.
금령총에서 묘사가 언제까지 시행되었는지는 알 수 없지만, 6세기 후반부터 7세기 전반 토기도 발견되므로 오랫동안 지속된 것 같다. 금령총의 피장자가 어린아이라는 점은 당시 신라사회의 권력 계승이 세습되었음을 보여주는 간접적인 증거로, 묘사는 망자의 연령과 상관없이 사회적 지위를 기반으로 한 독창적인 의례규범 체제로 진행된 것으로 이해된다.
결국 묘사는 고분이 가진 장소성과 의례의 규범을 실현하기 위한 것으로, 고분군에서 망자들의 관계를 사후세계에서도 유지시키기 위한 전략이다. 따라서 주기적으로 시행된 이러한 의례는 망자와 감응할 수 있는의례 주제자들이 존재의 연속성을 유지하기 위한 전략이자, 망자와의 관계를 강조하면서 사회적 지위의 정통성과 차별성을 드러내기 위한 의례적 실천이었다.

영어초록

Around the stone circle (Ho-suk) of Geumryeongchong, various earthenware, baduk stones, earthen drops, animal remains, and plant remains are found. The arrangement and combination of these artifacts were reviewed to examine the ritual characteristics and meaning.
Thirty-five cases of ritual earthenware related to Geumryeongchong were found, which can be understood from the perspective of a ritual held in front of the tomb, but in fact, traces of the ritual held during the construction of the tomb are also left.
Most of the rituals held in front of the tomb of Geumryeongchong Tomb include large storage jars, small earthenware, animal remains, and plant remains. There are cases where large jars + bowl supports (feet expectation) + small earthenware + animal and plant remains are buried together, and there are cases where only animal and plant remains are buried, and there are cases where only earthenware is buried. These aspects can be considered in relation to the food ritual used in the ritual in front of the tomb, and the timing and frequency of the ritual can be known.
It is not known exactly how long the ritual in front of the tomb was carried out at Geumryeongchong, but it can be assumed that the ritual in front of the tomb lasted for a relatively long time because earthenware corresponding to the late 6th century and the first half of the 7th century was found.
And the fact that the protagonist of the Geumryeongchong is a child is a direct evidence that the succession of power in Silla society at that time was inherited bloodily. It can be seen that the ritual in front of the tomb was also carried out in a system of ritual norms based on social status regardless of the age of the protagonist.
In the end, the ritual in front of the tomb is to realize the value norms of the place and rituals of the tomb, and is basically a strategy to maintain the relationship with the tomb's protagonist even after the world of death.
Therefore, the fact that these rituals were held regularly and irregularly can be thought of as maintaining the continuity of the existence of the tomb's protagonist and the tomb-building groups through rituals. Therefore, maintaining the relationship with the protagonist of the tomb should be understood as a strategy to realize the legitimacy and differentiation of the social status of the tomb-building groups.
