일본현대소설의 한국어 번역 고찰 －무라카미 하루키(村上春樹)『세계의 끝과 하드보일드 원더랜드』의 번역본 대조를 통하여－ (A Comparative Study of Korean Translations of Modern Japanese Novel -focused on Haruki Murakami’s -)

초록

There is no need to mention how important translation is. Recent four to five years,we have seen numerous Japanese novels to be translated in Korean and introduced to their Korean fans. Among Japanese writers published in Korea, however, we cannot but agree Haruki Murakami(1949~) is the most popular and powerful one, among Korean bookworms. Since 1988, almost all of his work has been published not only novels but also essays.
In this paper, three translation versions of Haruki Murakami’s <Hard-boiled Wonderland and the End of the World> (1985) by each different translators were compared and analyzed in terms of their translation strategy - literal translation and liberal translation. By this, it is found that all three versions were not free from translationese,mistranslation, liberal translation, omitting sentences and adding sentences. Especially,one of the versions has its own paragraph frame, and the other one has a lot of translationese. People who only read those translations but not having access to its original works might be confused and even misunderstand what the writer really wanted to talk about in his work. Translators must give their solid attention not to mass up with the context. Furthermore, translator should not delete any part at their own discretion; basically, it would never be accepted to skip some part while translating;adding some new sentences that are not in the original text would never be acceptable,either.
Tons of novels and essays are translated and published everyday; the population of Korean readers who are fond of Japanese novel is increasing significantly. It is never late to give a good thought to the right path of translating. So once again, it is important that some of us should give a close look at the translations and make sure those translations have less errors and no missing or adding part.
