다다와 초현실주의 양식의 그래픽디자인 표현특성 및 의미 분석 (Characteristics and Semantics of Graphic Design in Dada and Surrealism Style)

초록

20세기 초반의 모던 그래픽디자인은 기능적, 합리적정신에 기반 하여 기하학적 형태 표현으로 대중과의소통을 원활하고 용이하게 하였다. 당시의 모더니즘의기능주의적인 주류 디자인의 표현 경향과 다소 다른다다와 초현실주의의 그래픽디자인은 실험적인 표현이었다. 특히 그래픽디자인 영역에서 콜라주, 아상블라주 등을 활용한 다다의 전위적, 실험적인 표현 경향은 문자의 다양한 표현 가능성을 제시하였으며, 초현실주의는 초현실, 유머와 위트 등의 표현으로 대중의시선을 사로잡았다. 또한 다다와 초현실주의의 그래픽디자인은 소리의 다양한 측면을 표현한 공감각적인타이포그래피로 문자의 청각화, 소리의 시각화를 제시하였다.
다다가 제 1차 세계대전 와중에 전쟁의 폭력성에대한 회의로 기존의 가치 및 예술체제를 부정하는 허무주의 예술운동이라면, 다다를 계승한 초현실주의는인간 내면의 무의식의 세계를 표현한 문학예술운동이다. 다다와 초현실주의는 서양미술사의 대표적으로 연구 주제이지만 현대미술사조와 그래픽디자인을 체계적으로 연계한 연구는 활성화되지 않은 실정이다.
본 연구는 다다와 초현실주의 양식의 사회문화적맥락과 그래픽디자인의 연계성에서 다다와 초현실주의 그래픽디자인의 의미와 상징을 연구⋅분석하였다.
연구의 범위는 다다와 초현실주의 개념 및 의미, 다다와 초현실주의 그래픽디자인의 표현 특성, 다다와 초현실주의 양식의 그래픽디자인 의미 분석 등을 중심으로 연구⋅분석하였다. 세부적으로 다다와 초현실주의 그래픽디자인의 표현 특성에서는 다다와 초현실주의 작가의 그래픽디자인을 중심으로 연구하였다.
다다의 대표작가와 표현 양식에서는 휴고 발(H. Ball), 마르셀 뒤샹(M. Duchamp), 라울 하우스만(R. Hausman), 쿠르트 슈비터스(K. Schwitters) 등의 그래픽디자인을 중심으로 연구하였다. 초현실주의의 대표작가와 표현 양식에서는 살바도르 달리(S. Dali), 르네 마그리트(R. Magritte), 만 레이(M. Ray) 등의 그래픽디자인을 중심으로 연구하였다. 그래픽디자인의특징 및 의미 분석에서는 다다와 초현실주의의 사회문화적 맥락에서 양식의 상징적 측면을 조명하였다.
이러한 다다와 초현실주의 양식의 그래픽디자인의 의미 분석은 전위적인 시각에서 실험성, 우연성, 무의식등의 개념을 중심으로 연구하였다.
본 연구는 문헌 및 전시자료 등의 문헌 연구를 중심으로 진행하였으며, 그래픽디자인 의미 분석은 기호학적 연구를 바탕으로 하였다. 본 연구는 기하학적 표현에 기반 한 모던 그래픽의 대세 속에서 다소 다른전위적, 실험적인 경향의 다다와 초현실주의 그래픽디자인의 의미와 상징을 조명하였다는 측면에서 연구의의가 있다.

영어초록

Modern graphic design in the early 20th century facilitated communication with the public by expressing geometric form based on functional and rational spirit.
The graphic design of Dada and Surrealism, which was somewhat different from the expression tendency of the functionalist mainstream design of the modernism at the time, was an experimental expression. In particular, Dada’s avant-garde and experimental expression tendency using collage and assemblage suggested various and expressive possibilities of characters in the graphic design area, and Surrealism caught the public’s attention with expressions such as surreal, humor and wit. In addition, the graphic design of Dada and Surrealism presented auditory visualization of letters through synesthesia typography expressing various aspects of sound.
Dada is a nihilistic art movement that denies the existing values and art system with skepticism about the violence of war during World War I, Surrealism that succeeded Dada is a literary and artistic movement that expresses the world of human unconsciousness. Dada and Surrealism are representative research topics in Western art history, but research that systematically links modern art trends with graphic design has not been activated.
This research studied and analyzed the meaning and symbols of Dada and Surrealism graphic design in the connection between the socio-cultural context of Dada and Surrealism styles and graphic design. The scope of the study was focused on the concept and meaning of Dada and Surrealism, the expression characteristics of Dada and Surrealism graphic poster, and analysis of the symbol and meaning of graphic poster in the Dada and Surrealism style. In detail, in the expression characteristics of Dada and Surrealist graphic posters, the study was focused on graphic posters by Dada and Surrealist artists. Dada’s representative artists and styles of expression include H. Ball, M. Duchamp, R. Hausmann, K. Schwitters, etc., were studied with a focus on graphic design. In the representative artists of Surrealism and the style of expression, the study focused on graphic designs such as Salvador Dali, René Magritte, and Man Ray. In the analysis of the characteristics and meanings of graphic design, the symbolic aspects of style were illuminated in the socio-cultural context of Dada and Surrealism.
The analysis of the meaning of graphic design in the style of Dada and Surrealism focused on the concepts of experimentation, coincidence, and unconsciousness from an avant-garde perspective This study was conducted mainly on literature studies such as literature and exhibition materials, and analysis of the characteristics and meaning of graphic posters was based on semiotic studies. This study is meaningful in that it illuminates the meaning and symbolism of Dada and Surrealism style graphic design with somewhat different avant-garde and experimental tendencies in the trend of modern graphics based on geometric expression.
