설문조사와 면담을 통한 초·중등 영어교육의 연계성 분석 (Analysis of Continuity of Primary and Secondary English Education through Questionnaire Surveys and Interviews)

초록

The purpose of this study was to find out the degree of continuity of primary and secondary English education and to explore the ways to improve their continuity. For the purposes, four different groups of participants (186 6th grade students, 226 7th grade students, 34 primary school teachers and 39 secondary English teachers) responded to questionnaires. Interviews with 2 secondary English teachers were also administered. The results showed that the teachers considered the continuity of primary and secondary English education insufficient. Also, grammar and reading were regarded by the 7th grade students as the most different areas between primary and secondary English. In order to improve the continuity, increase of written language practice and teaching of basic grammar were recommended for the 6th grade English, and changes in teaching methods and adjustment of textbook difficulty were advocated for the 7th grade. In addition, teachers were in needs to know more about the English curriculum of both school levels. Along with the implications from the results, future research ideas on the topic were suggested.
