지속가능한 사회 구축을 위한 생태공동체 생성의 디자인 실천방안 모색 (Investigation of Practical Design Application to the Creation of Ecological Community for the Sustainable Society)

초록

본 연구는 지속가능성에 대한 논점의 변화를 진단하고, 지속가능한 사회의 모델로서 생태공동체를 상정할시, 그 구성 요소와 디자인 측면의 실천방안을 추론하고자 하였다. 연구의 주요 내용과 결과는 다음과 같다.
첫째, 지속가능성에 대한 논점은 지속가능한 사회건설로 확장⋅이동되었으며, 따라서 생태주의사회이론에 입각한 새로운 사회에 대한 탐구가 요청된다.
둘째, 대안사회의 모델로서 고찰한 생태마을공동체는 자연조건에 따라 형성된 인간의 정주체계⋅문화를기준으로 구획되어지며, 생태윤리의 확산과 인간과 자연의 상호관계에 입각한 사회 시스템의 재설정을 추구한다. 보완 모델로서 살펴본 에코페미니즘공동체는여성의 억압과 생태위기를 동질의 것으로 보고, 기존의 지배 패러다임에서 벗어나 상호 다름을 존중하고서로 보살피는 공동체 시스템을 대안으로 제시한다.
본 연구는 이들의 핵심 주장을 통합함으로써 생태공동체라는 지속가능한 사회의 기초 프레임과 경제, 기술, 정치, 교육, 문화적 차원의 조건들을 도출하였다.
셋째, 연구의 마지막 단계로, 기존의 지속가능한 디자인 접근법에 도출한 준거들을 분류⋅대입하여, 생태공동체 결성을 위한 디자인 실천 방안 다섯 가지-환경영향 최소화와 생태효과 극대화를 고려한 적정기술기반의 생산설계, 자립생산 인프라 구축을 위한 1인메이커와 길드의 부활, 생물 다양성을 긍정하는 인클루시브 디자인의 다각화, 생태적 감수성에 근거한 스피리츄얼리티의 추구, 디자인 액티비즘과 연계된 생태적 메시지 전달과 공동체 스토리텔링-를 도출하였다.
이와 같이 본 연구는 지속가능한 디자인 방법론에내재되어야 하는 요소들을 생태공동체와 연계하여 탐구함으로써 관련 분야가 나아갈 방향을 제시하였다.
향후 디자인 실천방안이 적용된 구체적인 사례 연구, 해당 공동체 거주민들을 대상으로 한 집단 심층면접(FGI)등을 활용한 질적 연구가 후속되기를 기대한다.

영어초록

This study intends to examine the change in the perspective of discussions on sustainability and to infer the elements and the practical measures in terms of design when particularly an ecological community is introduced as a model of a sustainable society. The main contents and the outcomes of this study are as follows.
Firstly, the issue of sustainability has expanded and moved to building a sustainable society, and therefore a search for a new world is required based on the eco-social theory.
Secondly, an ecovillage community as an alternative form of a society is plotted on the basis of the settlement system and culture formed according to natural conditions and it pursues reestablishment of the social system in harmony with nature as well as the spread of ecological ethics. Ecofeminism community as a complementary model regards that the oppression on women has the same quality as ecological crisis, so it suggests a community where members take care of one another respecting otherness as opposed to the dominance paradigm. Integrating key arguments above allows this research to draw not only the basic frame of a sustainable society called an ecological community, but also required conditions on levels of economy, technology, politics, education, and culture.
Thirdly, for the final step of the research, five design practices to form an ecological community were derived from classifying and substituting the criteria originated in the existing sustainable design approach; optimal technology-based production with consideration for minimizing environmental impact and maximizing ecological effects; revival of one-man makers and guilds to construct self-reliant production infrastructure; diversification of inclusive designs approving biodiversity; pursuit of spirituality based on ecological sensitivity; delivery of ecological messages linked to design activism and community’s storytelling.
In other words, this study explores the elements that should be included in the sustainable design methodology in connection with the ecological community theories so that it could hopefully signposts for the relevant fields the right way to move forward.
Accordingly, it is expected it to follow that case studies where there reveals design action plans and qualitative research which utilizes FGI given to community residents in the near future.
