공동체 문화로서 마을 민속문화의 공유 가치 (Sharing Value of Village Folk Culture as Community Culture)

초록

‘마을문화가 인류문화의 희망’이라고 여기며 마을민속을 바탕으로 미래문화의 대안을 찾는 문화이론 구상이 연구과제이다. 이러한 문제의식으로 마을문화의 공유 가치를 주민들의 생활세계 속에서 주목한다. “사람들은 일하고 놀고 빌며 살아간다.”고 하는 문장 속에 네 갈래의 생활세계가 포착된다. 일과 놀이, 제의, 의례 등 생활세계의 갈래에 따라 살펴보자.
1) 마을문화에서 일자리가 없어서 문제되는 사람은 없다. 토지와 재산은 사유를 인정하지만 일자리와 일거리는 마을사람들끼리 공유하기 때문이다. 일자리 공유의 가장 대표적인 문화가 두레이다. 두레는 일손이 모자라서 문제되는 사람이나, 일자리가 없어서 문제되는 사람의 문제를 모두 해결해 준다. 사유재산을 인정하면서 일자리를 공유하는 두레문화를 현대적으로 계승할 필요가 있다.
2) 지금 놀이는 일보다 더 차별화 되어 있다. 경제력에 따라 놀이기회와 놀이내용이 천차만별이다. 놀이시설과 놀이기구를 구매해야 놀 수 있는 까닭이다. 그러나 마을문화에서는 놀이기회가 균등하게 주어져 있고 놀이종목과, 놀이시설, 놀이기구가 무상으로 공유할 수 있어서 누구나 평등하게 놀이를 즐길 수 있다. 마을에는 상품화된 놀이시설이나 놀이기구가 아예 없다. 놀이터와 놀이시설, 놀이기구를 공유하는 공동체문화가 긴요하다.
3) 교단종교는 신앙생활에서 여러모로 통제가 따른다. 종교선택의 자유는 있으나 신앙의 자유는 없다. 교단에서 끊임없이 신앙생활의 규범을 부여하고 강요하는 탓이다. 그러나 동신은 주민들에 의해 자발적으로 신앙된다. 동제도 마을의 평안과 경제적 풍요를 위해 이루어진다. 사제자인 제관도 마을사람들이 합의 아래 해마다 선정된다. 마을신앙은 주민들 스스로 신앙주권을 발휘한 열린 구조의 해방신앙이라 할 수 있다.
4) 현대사회의 일생의례는 병원에서 시작하여 음식점, 예식장, 병원, 장례식장을 거치면서 이루어진다. 모두 상품화된 시설을 이용하지 않을 수 없다. 그러나 마을문화에서는 나서 죽을 때까지 거치는 모든 의례를 마을 안에서 해결한다. 의례용구와 잔치기물이 모두 마을에 갖추어져 있어서 무상으로 이용할 뿐 아니라, 잔치음식까지 부조로 마련할 수 있어서 가난한 사람들도 소외되지 않고 편안하게 의례를 치를 수 있다. 그러므로 공동체 성원들끼리 평등하게 보장된 삶을 누릴 수 있는 생활세계가 마을문화라 할 수 있다.
네 가지 생활세계는 서로 분별되면서 통합되어 있다. 일과 놀이는 둘이면서 하나이고 하나이면서 둘이듯이, 두레로 하는 일은 놀이와 제의, 의례를 겸하는 것이어서, 하나이면서 넷이고 넷이면서 하나라 할 수 있다. 이것이 ‘일하고 놀고 빌며 살아가는’ 마을공동체 문화의 존재양식이자 공유 가치이다. 그러므로 마을문화는 무상공유의 가치와 슬기를 잘 갈무리하고 있는 ‘오래된 미래’ 문화라 할 수 있다.

영어초록

The objective of this research is to formulate a culture theory to find an alternative future culture based on the notion that 'village culture is the hope of human culture.' With such awareness, this research focuses on the value of sharing village culture amongst the everyday life of its residents.Fourdivisions of life are found in the saying, "people live working, playing and borrowing." Observe the work and play, form, ceremony and other divisions.
1) In village culture, no one suffers from unemployment, because private ownership of land and property are acknowledged, but jobs and positions are shared by the village people.The best example of work sharing culture is Du-re (farmers' cooperative group).Du-re solves both the issues of lack of workers and lack of work. There is a need to integrate the Du-re culture into modern society, acknowledging private property, while sharing work.
2) Modern 'play' is more differentiated than work.Play opportunity and play thing vary greatly based on one's economic ability, because in the current society, one must purchase the play facility and play thing in order to play.However, in a village culture, play opportunity is equally given, and play facilities, play things and play events are provided free of charge.In a village, commercialized play facilities and play things do not exist.A community culture that shares play facility and play things is necessary.
3) Much regulation follows religion based on religious body.It allows freedom to select different religions, but it does not permit freedom of faith, because the religious body continuously enforces rules regarding religious life.However, a village god is naturally believed by its residents.Ceremony to the village protector god takes place for the peace and economic prosperity of the village.Even the priest is selected every year by the people of the village.Village faith is a faith of freedom, chosen by the free will of the village people.
4) The lifetime of ceremonies in modern social life begins from a hospital, then to restaurants, wedding halls, back to the hospital, then to the funeral home.Every facility is commercialized. However, in a village culture, all the ceremonies from birth to death are covered within the village.All the ceremonial equipment and celebration equipment are ready within the village for everyone's use free of charge, and food for the feast can be prepared with the funds from donations, which enables even the poor to feast and celebrate without hassle.Thus, village culture is a lifestyle that guarantees equal life to all the members of the community.
The four life divisions of life are differentiated, but are integrated. As work and play are two different things, but also one, living in Du-re is integrating work, play, religious form and ceremonies in one, and four at the same time.This is the fundamental idea and sharing value of a community that 'works, plays and borrows.'Thus, village culture may be called an 'old future' culture, thoroughly integrating the wisdom and value of free-sharing.
