문화재의 디지털복원을 위한 3D애니메이션 사례연구-신라 월성 복원영상 ‘천년왕국의 부활’ 제작과정을 중심으로- (A Case Study of 3D Animation for Digital Restoration of Cultural Assets -Focused on the Silla Wolsong Reconstructed Image 'The Resurrection of the Millennium'-)

초록

문화재의 디지털복원은 선진국을 중심으로 세계적추세이다. 경주시와 문화재청은 “경주 문화융성 프로젝트”를 계획하여 신라왕경의 모습을 실물복원하려고추진 중이다.
실물복원 시 선행되는 디지털복원의 산물인 영상콘텐츠는 일반적으로 3D애니메이션 형식의 복원영상으로 제작된다(이하 ‘복원영상’의 의미는 3D애니메이션형식으로 제작된 영상콘텐츠임을 밝힌다). 복원영상은실물복원에 앞서 결과를 예측하고 대중에게 홍보하기위한 도구로 활용되며 교육적 가치도 크다. 하지만 허구적 사실이 허용되는 영화와 달리 고증과 재현의 인과관계가 그릇된 표현으로 복원된 영상콘텐츠는 역사왜곡이라는 문제점을 야기할 수 있다. 또한, 디지털테크놀러지의 발전은 영상콘텐츠를 향한 관객의 기대수준과 비례한 반면, 기존에 제작된 복원영상의 시각적 리얼리티는 문화재의 대중적 기대를 극대화시키기에 부족하다.
이에 본 논문은 문화재의 복원영상이 학술적 대중적 가치기준에 부합하는 영상콘텐츠로 제작될 수 있도록 제언하기 위하여 진행되었다. 참고 문헌 및 선행연구를 통해 문화재의 디지털복원 및 리얼리티의 이론을 고찰하여 프로덕션 단계에서 발생하는 문제점을신라 월성 홍보전시관의 ‘천년왕국의 부활’ 제작사례를 통해 연구하였다. 분석의 이론적 근거로 카이스트문화기술센터 디지털 헤리티지 그룹의 “디지털복원에기반한 영상콘텐츠 프로덕션의 파이프라인 연구” 논문 중 프로덕션 제작 단계의 파이프라인 누수요인과조선대학교 디자인대학원의 ‘SFX에서 비주얼 리얼리티 요소에 관한 연구’ 논문을 활용하였다. 복원영상의시각적 리얼리티를 위한 구현 요소를 조형, 키네틱,상태 및 공간의 요소로 정의하고 ‘천년왕국의 부활’복원영상에 표현된 리얼리티 구현 요소와의 관계 분석을 위해 3D애니메이션 제작과정을 건축물, 캐릭터,모션캡처, 렌더링과 컴포지팅(Compositing)으로 세분화하고 적용사례를 정리하였다. 분석내용을 간략히 정리하면 조형적 리얼리티를 위해 신라왕경의 주요건축물을 고증자료에 의거하여 모델링하고 월성을 중심으로 배치하였다. 또한 캐릭터 개발에 필요한 신라인의의복문화 자료를 수집하여 20여종의 캐릭터에 적용하였다. 키네틱 리얼리티를 위해 생동감 있는 동작 연출을 광학식 모션캡처 기술과 클로스 시뮬레이션으로표현하였다. 마지막으로 상태 및 공간 리얼리티를 위해 멘탈레이(Mental ray) 렌더링과 레이어 컴포지팅기법을 활용하였다. 이에 따른 결과로 문화재의 복원영상은 학술적 가치기준에 입각한 고증절차의 내실화를 토대로 시각적 리얼리티에 기반하여 대중의 기대에 부응하는 영상콘텐츠로 제작되어야 할 것이다. 이러한 노력이 영상콘텐츠제작에 활용되어 역사적 교육적 가치를 충족시키는 복원영상이 양산된다면 세계적수준의 문화유산 선진국으로 나아가는 밑거름이 될것으로 기대한다

영어초록

Cultural Assets Digital Restoration is a globaltrend in developed countries. The Gyeongju City andCultural Heritage Administration is planning ‘GyeongjuCity cultural prosperity project’, that is to actualrestoration of ‘Silla’s Capital’.
The media contents, a product of the digitalrestoration is followed by the actual restoration into 3DAnimation(From the following, meaning of ‘TheRestored Image’ is a media contents that was productedinto 3D Animation). In addition, that is used as a toolto promote to the public and for predicts to results. Inthe case of films, fictional restoration is allowed. Whilein the case of incorrect The Restored Image, the causalrelationship between historical research andrepresentation can cause the issue distortion of history.
Also, the development of digital technology isproportional to the expectations of the audience, whileThe Restored Image of visual reality that is previouslypublished work, not enough to maximize the publicvalue of cultural property.
Therefore, this study is consistent with the valueof academic and popular content production was carriedout in order to suggest. In this study, references andprevious research were investigated through thetheoretical. From the research of ‘The Resurrection ofthe Millennium’ production practices in Silla WolsungFilm Exhibit hall. This study investigated the problemsthat occur at the production stage. As the basis for thetheoretical analysis, this study used the Productionstage in a production pipeline leakage factor of “A studyon pipelines of a media content production based ondigital reconstruction” research paper by the digitalheritage group in research center and “A Study on theFactors of Visual Reality in SFX” by Graduate Schoolof Design, Chosun University. Elements for theimplementation of visual reality was defined that isFormative, Kinetic, State & Space to analyze therelationship with the implementing elementsrepresented in the ‘The Resurrection of the Millennium’restoration image, this study was subdivided theproduction process into Structure, Character, MotionCapture, Rendering, and Compositing. And examples ofthe application was described. In summary, mainbuildings of Silla’s Capital were shaping from historicalresearch data and then the Wolsung was placed in thecenter for formative reality. The Silla clothing culturematerials for the development of character werecollected. And about 20 species on the basis it wasapplied to the characters. Optical motion capture andCloth simulation for a lively representation of themotion was directed. Finally, mental ray rendering andlayer compositing used for the state and space reality.
As the results, the cultural restored image assetsto meet the expectations of public should be made tomedia contents from the procedure on the basis ofacademic historical research and visual reality. If theseeffort are utilized to produce the media contents forcultural heritage restoration, historical and educationalvalue of the new audiovisual production, a world classcultural heritage of our country moving in developedcountries will be the foundation.
