초록

This paper takes an in-depth study on the implicit meaning of the anxiety which Komura feels in UFO in Kushiro at the beginning of the short story All God's Children Can Dance written by Haruki Murakami.
First of all, this study investigated the reason why Komura's wife asked to divorce and identified that the earthquake symbolizes the breakdown of spousal relationship.
This study investigated the anxiety Komura feels about Shimao and Shimao, the female figure with danger and voluptuous beauty and Kushiro is a place of death. Komura's anxiety is getting worse when he goes to a place where danger, sensuality and death coexist beyond his own boundary.
The historical background of 1995 with the era of collapse of bubble economy implies Komura's anxiety is co-related with social and economical issues. Although the recession just started, Komura sticks to be optimistic for abundance. He is a representative character of Japan of those days and he is a symbol of an economic collapse through breakdown of spousal relationship. According to this, Komura's anxiety suggests the chaos which is caused by the economic collapse and its symptom is the anxiety.
Short stories including this work deal with inner wounds and sense of loses but they suggest the true healing through the main character who tries to heal his own wounds at the same time.
