초록

본 연구는 관계성 결핍과 배려 부족 문제에서 출발하여 ‘공감’의 철학을 가진 올리비에 탈레크 작품에서 관계적 배려의 상징성과 의미를 찾는 것이 연구의 목적이다. 연구방법은 올리비에 탈레크 작품들의 특징들과 관계성이 잘 표현되고 있는 그림책『큰 늑대 작은 늑대』를 선정하여 분석하였다. 그림책에서 관계형성 과정을 살펴보고, 관계적 배려의 상징성과 의미를 철학적 ․ 윤리적 관점에서 분석하였다. 분석결과, 관계형성의 과정은 두 늑대의 만남을 시작으로 배려, 소통과 공감과정을 거쳐 상호적 관계를 만들어 갔다. 이 과정에서 배려는 관계성에 결정적 영향을 준다. 그림책에 나타난 관계적 배려에 대한 상징성은 서로 다른 두 주인공의 이미지를 독창적이며 유머러스하게 표현하고, 관계형성과 배려의 장면들을 선, 색, 원근, 대비, 움직임 등을 활용하여 섬세하게 보여줌으로써 쉽게 공감할 수 있는 특성을 보여주었다. 관계적 차원에서 배려의 의미는 첫째, 다른 사람을 배려하고자 하는 자연스러운 감정에 따른 ‘자연적 배려’. 둘째, 배려는 기본적 욕구를 드러내는 것. 셋째, 행동으로 옮겨진 배려가 진정한 배려. 넷째, 상대와 다름을 인정하고 수용하고 기다려주는 것. 다섯째, 상대에게 마음을 집중하고 조건 없는 행동을 하는 것. 여섯째, 걱정과 염려, 감정이입, 지속적인 관심은 배려의 본질적 요소라는 것이다. 이같이 배려의 의미는 개인적 덕목이 아니라 관계적 차원에서 이해되어야 하는 점에서 상호연관성을 지닌다. 자발적 배려가 나타나기 위해서는 직접적인 가르침 보다 그림의 집중이 글의 메시지와 감정을 섬세하게 전달하는데 더 효과적이다. 따라서 앞으로 본 연구에서 밝힌 배려의 상징성과 의미들을 기초로 하여 관계적 배려에 대한 공감을 할 수 있는 다양한 그림책들이 개발되길 기대해본다.

영어초록

This study aims to find out the meanings and symbolism of relational caring in works by Olivier Tallec with a philosophy of ‘sympathy’, starting from a critical mind of lack of relationship and caring. Based on the results of the analysis, this study intends to provide association between relationship and caring and suggestive points for the importance of caring for relationship formation. The study method was to examine the characteristics of his works. Then, among them, the picture book『Big Wolf and Little Wolf』that expressed relationship best was intensively analyzed. This study looked at the process of relationship formation in the picture book. This study also organized the content of analysis on the meanings and symbolism of relationship and caring from philosophical and ethical perspectives. According to the result of analysis, the formation of relationship was initiated by the encountering of the two wolves. They made interactive relationship by caring, communicating with, and sympathizing with each other. In this process, caring was decisively affected relationship formation. Symbolism of relational caring appearing in picture book express creative and humorous image of tow different characters, shows feature that can be so easily sympathy scenes of the relational caring which may be utilized with line, colour, perspective, contrast, movement etc. The first meaning of caring in the picture book is natural caring based on natural emotions intending to consider the other party. Second, caring appears as humans' basic desire. Third, caring made into a behavior is a genuine caring. Fourth, caring is to accept differences from the other party and accommodate him as he is and wait for him. Fifth, caring is to make unconditional behaviors concentrating the mind on the other party. Sixth, worry and concern, empathy, continuous attention are the essential elements of caring. Like this, caring is not an individual virtue but should be understood in the dimension of relationship, with mutual association between them. For voluntary caring for relationship formation, concentration on the pictures rather than direct teaching more precisely delivers the messages of his writing and is effective for more delicate delivery of emotions. Accordingly, this study suggests that caring should be preceded in relationship and it is useful to utilize picture book illustrations in order to understand caring in terms of relationship. Based on symbolism and meanings of relational caring, proposing that pictures which may be utilized for reading them with sympathy of relational caring are and the author expects development of diverse picture books.
