생애사 기록물 「冊平日記」와 「月波遺稿」에 나타난 정체성과 언어 의식 (Language identity and Conscious Awareness on writing of Personal historic documents 「Chaekphyeong Diary」 and 「Wolphayougo」)

초록

「책평일기」는 전북 임실군 신평면 창인리 출신의 고 최내우(1923년 생)가 1969년(46세)부터 1993년(70세)까지 26년 동안 일상의 삶을 기록한 일기 자료이며 「월파유고」는 일제강점기 말기에서 1950년대 중반까지를 회고하여 기록한 자료이다. 최근 서구 사회방언학 연구에 있어서 집단 혹은 발화공동체 차원뿐만 아니라 그 다양한 하위 집단과 개별 화자 차원에 대한 연구가 진행되고 있다. 특히 표기 규범이 완성되지 않은 생애사 기록물은 개인어의 변화 과정을 추적하고 공동체 내부의 비제도적 언어 규범과 일기 작성자의 언어 의식을 규명할 수 있는 사회방언학적 자료로서의 가치가 충분하다. 최내우는 전형적인 자수성가형 인물로 면내 유지들과 긴밀한 교류망을 형성하며 외부 규범을 수용함으로써 자신의 정체성을 표기에 반영하고 있다. 그는 초등학교 졸업이 정규 교육의 전부이어서 일제강점기 한글 표기 방식으로 문어 생활을 유지하고 있으며 내부 지식인으로서 한자 사용 압력에 영향을 받아 한자어를 과도하게 사용하는 한편 면 유지, 공무원, 경찰 등과의 교류를 통해 외래어 및 외부 규범 지향성을 보이기도 한다. 이러한 바탕을 토대로 의식 위로 올라온 토속방언을 위신형으로 교정하여 위로부터의 변화를 조기에 수용하지만 동시에 원순모음화나 w활음 첨가와 같이 아래로부터의 변화를 유지하며 동궤의 토속방언 현상들 간에 위상의 차이를 보여주고 있다. 이러한 분석 결과는 현대 일기 자료가 자신과 특정 공동체 내의 상호작용의 생애사적 산물인 교류망과 정체성을 분석하기에 효율적인 자료임을 보여준다. 이 논문의 분석 결과는 일기 자료 전체가 전산화된 후 본격적인 정량 분석의 기초 자료로서 그리고 현지 조사를 위한 변항 설정과 교류망 분석의 기초 분석 자료로 활용될 것이다.

영어초록

The aim of this study is to find out how to explain about the characteristics of idiolect in a sociolinguistic view which are based on diary documents. The diary documents are described the history of one's life in detail. Namely, it could be accomplished through the participant observation which is a ethnographic investigation method, from only about contents and self identification of the interchange network which is possible information diary data analysis. The diary data is to recollect and record about at that event after getting away from the site. Filter mechanism which is based on the language ceremony of the writer oneself is exercised from the process. From the contents of the Filter mechanism, we will be able to understand the language ceremony and an attitude of that writer. The writer of Chaekpyeong Diary applies the language analysis and an external norm oneself on the basis of the notation method of the flowering time textbook. Not only chinese character use, borrowed word but also administrative way of talking, and by making corrections of dialects, he tells they are not only typical intelligent people which are able to regularly use a Chinese character but also they are modern people who always seek for an idea of the cultured language. This language variation according to the character could be classified with indicator, marker and stereotype. Specially marker and stereotype are the resources that the writer use the language of oneself intentionally as well as socially. This feature will be results from connecting with the different people and the contents will be known through social interchange network. The resultant five social network through the analysis social network of writer was divided into two groups according to the characteristics. The first social network consists of family and the village people. The writer has the quality as Imsil dialect indicator through this interchange network but he becomes an external character by consistent contact with outsiders. His directivity which appear in Chaekpyeong Diary, are to be a result of social network and self identification. Although this content must be investigated according to the language variation in more detail, it will contribute to social understanding with the fact that it is accomplished with on-the-spot survey plan and personal language mutation and change.
