참여자 주체적 시민연극 프로그램 개발의 방향성에 대한 소고 - 연극 및 예술교육 패러다임 변화를 중심으로 - (A Study on the Direction of Developing Participant-oriented Applied Theatre Program – Focusing on Theatre and Arts Education Paradigm Shift –)

초록

본 연구는 참여자가 주체가 되어 스스로의 삶 속 경험의 일부를 재현하거나 재구성함으로 행동의 원리와 의도, 표현 방법, 인물로서의 ‘나’를 발견하고 주체성을 확립할 수 있는 예술교육 프로그램의 필요성에서 출발하였다. 이를 위해, 예술교육의 흐름과 동향을 검토하고, 특히 현대 예술교육의 이론적 기반을제시한 듀이를 중심으로 예술교육의 주요 개념 및 논의를 고찰하였다. 이와 연계하여 국내 연극교육의현황과 변화하는 연극 패러다임 수용을 위한 대안의 하나로서 ‘시민연극(Applied Theatre)’ 접근의 가능성을 살펴보았다. 이를 바탕으로, 그동안 주로 배우 연기훈련으로만 알려진 에쮸드(Etude)를 활용하여참여자 주체적 시민연극 프로그램 구조화를 위한 방향성을 고찰하였다. 본 연구는 그동안 전통적 연극교육에서 소홀하였던 교육연극이나 시민연극 등 다양한 연극적 접근에 대한 시각을 넓히고, 이를 연극및 예술교육 패러다임 변화의 관점에서 고찰하였다는 데 의미가 있다. 특히 연기훈련 방법으로만 인식되어온 Etude를 활용하여 배우는 물론 일반인들이 연극을 통해 자신의 경험과 사고를 촉진할 수 있는‘참여자 주체적 시민연극 프로그램’ 개발의 가능성을 제시하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다.

영어초록

This study began from the necessity of arts education programs in which participants could become the willing subject in recreating or reconstructing experiences of their lives so that they can understand principles and intentions of activities, find ways of expressions, and discover ‘themselves’ by establishing their ownership. To do this, the study reviewed the current trend of arts education and discussed the major concepts and issues of arts education, especially focusing on Dewey, who had provided the theoretical basis of contemporary arts education. In connection with this, the study examined the possibility of ‘Applied Theatre’ approach as one of the alternatives in the light of the status quo of Korean theatre education field and to embrace the changing paradigms in theatre and arts education. Based on this argument, the study examined and proposed the possibilities for a structuralization of ‘participant-oriented Applied Theatre’ programs using Etude, which has only been known as actor training program. This study is meaningful because it not only broadened the perspective on diverse theatrical approaches such as educational drama and applied theatre that have been neglected in traditional, mainstream theatre education but also considered them in relation with paradigm shifts in theatre and arts education. In particular, it is also meaningful because it explores the possibility of the development of ‘participant-oriented Applied Theatre program’ that both actors and non-actors can promote thoughts and experiences using Etude which has been only considered as actor training methods not for wider populations.
