장기간 시합 미참가로 인한 여자탁구 학생선수와 실업선수의 선수 정체성 변화 (Changes in Athletic Identity of Student and Professional Athletes Due to Long-term Non-participation in Competition)

초록

목적: 본 연구의 목적은 코로나19가 확산하기 이전 시합에 정상적으로 참여했을 때와 코로나19 확산으로 인해 장기간 시합에 참여하지 못했을 때 학생선수와 실업선수의 선수 정체성 변화양상을 알아보는 것이다. 방법: 연구대상은 코로나19 확산 전 대부분의 대회에 참가한 경험이 있는 고등학교 여자탁구선수 65명과 실업탁구선수 35명이었다. 설문지를 활용하여 선수 정체성을 측정하였으며, 수집된 자료에 대하여 빈도분석, 대응표본 t-test. 반복측정 이원분산분석(two-way ANOVA)을 실시하였다. 결과: 코로나 19로 인한 장기간 시합 미참가는 학생 탁구선수와 실업 탁구선수의 선수 정체성을 감소시켰는데, 학생선수에 비해 실업선수의 선수 정체성이 더 현저하게 위축되었다. 또한, 경기력 수준(상비군 경험 유무)에 따라 학생선수와 실업선수의 선수 정체성의 변화가 다르게 나타났다. 선수 정체성의 하위 요인인 긍정적 정서의 경우 상비군 경험이 있는 학생선수들이 상비군 경험이 없는 선수들에 비해 더 급격하게 감소되었다. 결론: 장기간 시합 미참가는 학생과 실업 여자 탁구선수의 선수 정체성이위축되는데 학생보다 실업 선수가 더 부정적으로 영향을 받았다. 선수 정체성의 침체를 막기 위해서는 무관중 경기 등으로라도 시합 참가 기회가 꾸준하게 마련되어야 한다.

영어초록

Purpose: Purpose: This study examined the chages in athletic identity of Korean female student and professional athletes due to long-term non-participation in competitions. The wide spread of COVID-19 made the table tennis athletes impossible to participate in scheduled competitions more than 11 months. This type of forced non-participation in games for a long period of time was very rare case in recent years. Methods: A total of 65 female high school table tennis student athletes and 35 female professional athletes responded to the athletic identity questionnaire. The were requested to recall the time when they were normally train and participate before the COVID-19. The participants responded to each of the athletic identity item twice: 1) normal participation period before COVID-19 and 2) more than 11 months of non-participation due to the pandemic. Paired t-test and repeated two-way ANOVA were performed. Results: The analyses of the data revealed that although the two groups showed lowered levels of athletic identity, long-term non-participation in competitions lowered athletic identity of the professional players more drastically compared to the student counterparts. The interaction effects were found for all of the subscales of athletic identity (self identity, social identity, exclusivity, positive emotion, and negative emotion). Overall, the student athletes who palyed for the national team showed moderate decreases in athletic identity. For the professinal athletes, the patterns of decreases in athletic idnetity before and after the long non-participation were similar across different status in terms of national team nomination. In conclusion, unintended non-participation in competitions for more than 11 months lowered athltetic identity of the professional table tennis players more deeply compared to the student athletes. Conclusion: In order to prevent negative impact on athletic identity, opportunities for participation in various competitions, even in the form of matches without spectators, are necessary for the high performance athletes.
