초록

본 연구는 제조 중소기업의 기술협력의 규모와 다양성이 혁신 성과에 미치는 영향을 살펴보고, 기술집약도에 따른 산업 구분과 기업 규모가 이러한 영향 관계를 조절하는지를 분석하고자 한다. 이를 위하여 본 연구는 과학기술정책연구원의 2020년 한국기업혁신조사를 이용하였다. 분석 결과, 첫째, 기술협력의 규모가 크고 다양성이 증가할수록 혁신 성과가 유의하게 높아졌다. 둘째, 저기술 산업은 고기술 산업에 비하여 다양한 외부기관과의 강도 높은 기술협력이 혁신 성과를 향상시키는데 더욱 큰 영향을 미쳤다. 셋째, 소기업은 중기업에 비하여 기술협력의 강도가 혁신 성과를 더욱 향상시키는 반면에, 중기업은 소기업에 비하여 다양한 외부기관과의 기술협력이 혁신 성과를 더욱 증가시켰다. 이러한 분석 결과는 몇 가지 학술적 및 실무적 시사점을 지닌다. 첫째, 이 연구는 대부분의 선행연구들이 기술협력의 규모에 초점을 맞추고, 어떤 기관들과 제휴 네트워크를 맺었는지에 관한 기술협력의 다양성을 충분히 논의하지 않았던 한계를 극복하였다. 둘째, 본 연구는 제조 중소기업의 입장에서 자사가 속한 업종과 규모에 따라 적합한 기술협력 활동을 모색할 수 있는 방안을 제시했다는 점에서 실무적으로 기여한다. 이 연구는 기존 연구들이 흡수역량의 조절효과를 분석하는데 중점을 둔 것에 비하여 중소기업이 파악할 수 있는 명확한 기준인 기술집약도에 따른 산업 구분과 기업 규모를 적용했기 때문에, 중소기업이 적합한 기술혁신 전략을 수립하고 실행하는데 유용하게 활용될 수 있다.

영어초록

This study examines the impacts of scale and diversity of technological cooperation on innovation performance in manufacturing small- and medium-sized enterprises and analyzes the moderating effects of industry classification according to technology intensity and company size. For this purpose, this study used the 2020 Korean Innovation Survey (KIS) conducted by the Science and Technology Policy Institute (STEPI). The results of the analysis are as follows. First, as the scale of technological cooperation was larger, and the diversity of technological cooperation greater, the innovation performance was significantly higher. Second, intensive technical cooperation with various external organizations had a greater impact on improving innovation performance in low-tech industries than in high-tech industries. Third, while the intensity of technological cooperation in small-sized businesses improved innovation performance better than in medium-sized businesses, the technological cooperation with various external organizations in medium-sized businesses did so better than in small-sized businesses. The results of this study have several theoretical and practical implications. First, this study overcame the limitations of most previous studies, which focused only on the scale of technological cooperation and did not sufficiently discuss the diversity of technological cooperation in terms of which organizations alliance networks are formed with. Second, this study makes practical contribution in that it suggests a way that manufacturing small- and medium-sized companies can seek appropriate technological cooperation strategies depending on their industry and size. Compared to previous studies that focused on analyzing the moderating effect of absorptive capacity, this study applied industry classification according to technology intensity and company size, which are clear criteria that small- and medium-sized enterprises can understand. Therefore, it can be useful for small- and medium-sized enterprises to establish and implement appropriate technological innovation strategies.
