초록

본 논문은 포석 조명희의 소설집 『낙동강』을 중심으로 판본별 작품 수록과 배제, 복자의 변화 양상을 분석하는 데 목적을 두고 있다. 복자의 복원이나 변형은 단순히 텍스트의 수정이 아니라 작가 또는 편집자의 의도, 시대 상황 등이 반영된 결과이다. 특히 조명희의 작품집은 작가가 살아있을 때 발간했던 백악사본을 제외하고 나머지 판본은 모두 작가가 세상을 떠난 1938년 이후에 나왔기 때문에 작가의 의도가 반영될 수 없었다. 결국 편집자의 가치관이나 판단, 당시 시대적 상황이 복자의 복원과 수정에 많은 영향을 줄 수밖에 없었다. 복자의 정치학이 가능한 이유는 바로 여기에 있다. 본 논문은 각 작품이 발표되었던 최초 판본, 백악사, 건설출판사, 문화전선사, 조선작가동맹, 소련과학원 등 6종의 판본을 대상으로 작품 수록과 배제 양상을 살피고 복자의 변화 양상을 분석하여 그 속에 놓여 있는 문학 정치학적 의미를 도출하고자 했다.
판본별 작품 수록의 차이는 작품의 질적 측면과 함께 작품집이 발간되었던 시기와 사회 상황이 적극적으로 반영된 결과였다. 조명희의 작품집이 1950년대 시기에 대부분 북한과 소련에서 발간된 점을 고려할 때 수록된 작품의 변화는 당시 북한과 소련의 정치적 지향이나 문학적 가치를 지니는 것은 당연한 결과이다.
다음은 복자의 변화 양상을 살펴본 결과 복자의 생성과 복원이 기준이나 통일성 없이 이루어졌음을 확인했다. 특히 최초 판본과 백악사본 사이에는 일제 검열이 명확한 기준 없이 상황에 따라 이루어져서 저항 의식이나 사상성이 드러나는 용어 외에 평범한 일상어도 복자 처리가 된 예를 찾을 수 있었다. 또 일제의 무차별적 검열에 대응하기 위해 작가나 편집자가 의도적으로 복자를 만들기도 했다. 예를 들면 추론이 가능한 용어를 중심으로 복자 처리하여 차후에 복자의 복원이 가능하도록 했다. 이를 위해 편집자는 원고 내용을 삭제하거나 복자 처리한 경우 일제 출판 검열 기관의 기호와는 다른 복자 기호를 사용하여 구분하였다.
다음으로 복원된 글자가 기존 복자의 글자 수와 차이가 있거나 띄어쓰기, 형태 등에서도 차이가 있었다. 그리고 복원 시 선택된 어휘와 용어들이 당시 작품집을 발간했던 주체(편집자, 출판사, 권력자)의 의도가 잘 드러나도록 제시되었다. 결국 판본 비교를 통해 복자의 복원과 변형은 편집자의 의도와 당시 사회의 가치관이 반영된 복자의 정치학의 결과물임을 확인할 수 있다.

This paper aims to analyze the patterns of changes in Bokja through comparison and contrast with other editions, focusing on Cho Myeong-Hee's novel collection Nakdonggang. The restoration or transformation of the Bokja is not just a correction of the text, but a result of reflecting the intention of the author or editor and the situation of the times. In particular, Cho Myeong-Hee's collection of works came out after the artist passed away, except for the White House copy published when the artist was alive. So the author's intention could not be reflected in other editions. In other words, this is why the politics of the Bokja is possible. In the end, the editor's values, judgments, and circumstances of the times had no choice but to have a great influence on the revision of the Bokja. Therefore, this paper attempted to derive its meaning by analyzing the changes in the six editions that published the first edition, Baegagsa, the Construction Publishing House, Munwhajunsunsa, Josun Author Alliance, and the Soviet Academy of Sciences.
First, as a result of examining the patterns of changes in the bokja, it was confirmed that the creation and restoration of the bokja were carried out without standards or uniformity. Comparing the original edition with the Baegagsa copy, it was found that the Japanese failed to apply clear standards when censoring and responded to the situation at that time. In addition to the sense of resistance and ideology, it was possible to find an example in which ordinary everyday words were copied according to Japanese censorship. In order to cope with the indiscriminate censorship of Japanese imperialism, writers and editors intentionally created bokja. For example, it is a compound processing centered on inferences or infeasible terms. In addition, when the editor deletes the contents of the manuscript, it is classified into other bokja so that it can be checked in the future.
Next, the restored characters were different from the number of characters in the existing bokja, or there were also differences in spacing and form. In addition, the vocabulary and terms selected during the restoration were presented so that the intention of the subject who published the collection of works at the time was well revealed.
