초록

이 연구는 몽촌토성 목곽집수지 출토 목제 유물에 대한 검토를 목적으로 한다. 몽촌토성은 한성백제기부터 고구려, 조선시대까지 지속적으로 활용된 유적으로, 현재 한성백제박물관 백제학연구소에 의해 북문지를 중심으로 연차 발굴조사가 진행되고 있다. 특히 삼국시대 문화층에서는 다양한 유구가 확인되었으며, 이 가운데 목곽집수지는 국내에서 확인된 삼국시대 목곽집수지 중 가장 큰 규모를 자랑한다.
이번 연구에서는 몽촌토성 목곽집수지에서 출토된 목제 유물의 특징과 의미를 고찰하며 집수지 축조 기법과 구조에 대한 검토를 진행해 보았다. 조사 결과, 집수지는 약 14m×14m의 정방형 구조를 갖추고 있으며, 깊이는 약 1.6~1.8m에 이른다. 벽체는 지대목과 판재를 활용한 결구 방식으로 조성되었으며, 내부 바닥은 자갈과 모래층으로 구성되었다.
출토 목제 유물은 구조재와 생활유물로 구분할 수 있다. 구조재로는 판재, 대형목재, 수직목재, 지대목 등이 있으며, 특히 지대목은 반턱이음과 반턱맞춤 기법이 활용된 점이 확인되었다. 이러한 결구 방식은 공산성 목곽고, 예산산성 목곽시설 등 다른 삼국시대 목곽시설과의 비교를 통해 그 공통점을 찾을 수 있다. 또한, 출토된 구조재 중 판재와 지대목은 정교한 가공 흔적과 결구 방식을 보여주며, 이를 통해 당시 목곽시설의 축조 기법을 유추할 수 있다. 생활유물로는 목간, 쟁기, 자, 빗, 그릇 등 다양한 유물이 출토되었으며, 이들 유물은 당시 몽촌토성 거주민들의 생활상을 반영하는 중요한 자료가 된다.
특히, 집수지 내부에서 출토된 목간은 문자 자료로서 중요한 가치를 지니며, 이를 통해 당시의 행정･경제적 활동을 엿볼 수 있다. 또한, 출토된 쟁기는 농업과 관련된 유물이지만 토목공사 또는 의례용으로 활용되었을 가능성을 추정해 볼 수 있다.
본 연구를 통해 몽촌토성 목곽집수지의 구조와 축조 방식, 출토 목제 유물의 성격을 파악할 수 있었으며, 이를 바탕으로 당시의 기술적 수준과 생활양식을 보다 구체적으로 이해할 수 있다. 앞으로 추가적인 분석과 비교 연구를 통해 몽촌토성 목곽집수지의 성격과 기능에 대한 논의를 심화할 필요가 있다.

영어초록

This study aims to examine the wooden artifacts excavated from the Mongchontoseong wooden-walled reservoir. Mongchontoseong is a historical site that was continuously utilized from the Hanseong Baekje period through the Goguryeo and Joseon periods. Currently, the Baekje Research Institute of the Seoul Baekje Museum is conducting annual excavations focusing on the northern gate site. Among the various cultural layers from the Three Kingdoms period, the wooden-walled reservoir stands out as the largest of its kind discovered from this period in Korea.
This research analyzes the characteristics and significance of the wooden artifacts unearthed from the Mongchontoseong wooden-walled reservoir and examines the construction techniques and structural features of the reservoir. The investigation revealed that the reservoir has a square structure measuring approximately 14m × 14m, with a depth of around 1.6 to 1.8m. The walls were constructed using a combination of vertical posts and wooden planks, while the interior floor consisted of layers of pebbles and sand.
The excavated wooden artifacts can be categorized into structural materials and daily-use items. Structural components include planks, large timbers, vertical posts, and foundation posts. Notably, the foundation posts exhibit jointing techniques such as half-lap and half-tenon joints, which are comparable to those observed in other Three Kingdoms period wooden structures, such as the wooden-walled reservoirs at Gongsanseong and Yesan Fortress. The planks and foundation posts display precise craftsmanship and sophisticated joinery techniques, shedding light on the construction methods of wooden facilities from that time.
Daily-use artifacts include wooden tablets, plows, rulers, combs, and bowls, providing valuable insights into the lives of Mongchontoseong’s inhabitants. In particular, the wooden tablets found within the reservoir hold significant value as written records, offering glimpses into administrative and economic activities of the period. Additionally, while the plow is primarily an agricultural tool, its possible use in civil engineering projects or rituals is also considered.
This study provides a comprehensive understanding of the structure, construction techniques, and characteristics of the excavated wooden artifacts from the Mongchontoseong wooden-walled reservoir, allowing for a deeper appreciation of the technological advancements and daily life of the period. Further analysis and comparative studies will be necessary to refine discussions on the reservoir’s function and historical significance.
