연세대 소장 유서 및 한자어휘집의 가치 (The Value of leishus(類書) and Chinese character wordbooks(漢字語彙集) owned by Yonsei University Central Library)

초록

연세대학교 중앙도서관에는 경사자집 4부의 각 분야에 걸쳐 희귀본˙진본˙선본이 많이 소장되어 있다. 금번에 연세대학교 국학연구원에서 간행한 『연세대학교 중앙도서관 소장 고서해제』 12책(평민사, 2008년 완간)은 모두 630종의 문헌을 대상으로 해제 작업을 하였는데, 그 가운데에는 연세대 소장 유서(類書)와 한자어휘집(漢字語彙集) 32종에 대한 해제가 포함되어 있다.
유서는 주제별로 다양한 서적으로부터 기사를 모아 편집한 것으로, 서적의 원본을 읽지 않고도 지식을 축적하고 교양을 쌓을 수 있는 교양서 역할을 하였으며, 읽기나 쓰기를 할 때 가져다 쓸 수 있는 작시작문 용례의 길잡이였다. 또한 유서는 사물의 장실(掌實, 掌故事實)과 기원을 검색하기 위한 공구서로서도 발달하여, 문헌용어사전의 형태를 갖추었다. 한편, 유서와 유사하게 분류의 방식을 취하면서 한자 어휘들의 시소로스(Thesaurus, 유의어 체계)를 구축한 『물보(物譜)』 및 『재물고(才物考)』 계통의 서적도 있다. 이것은 주제별로 다양한 서적으로부터 기사를 모아 편집한 것은 아니지만, 어휘들의 집적․분류 방식이 유서와 매우 밀접한 관련을 지닌다.
연세대본 유서 및 한자어휘집은 대부분 조선시대 학술지성사의 향방을 개괄할 수 있는 중요한 자료들이어서, 관련 해제들은 향후 이 방면 연구에 초석이 될 것이다.
이 가운데 유서이면서도 생활세계의 일부 사항만을 표제항으로 설정한 『휘략』은 다른 도서관에서 찾아볼 수 없는 유일 희귀본이다. 또 『조수충어초목명(鳥獸蟲魚艸木名)』은 신작(申綽)의 수고본(手稿本)으로 희귀본이다. 그밖에 연세대 도서관에는 정학영(丁學榮)의 『수호지어록(水滸誌語錄)』 5권 4책과 편저자 미상의 『수호지어록』 58장 1책본과 18장 1책본은 조선후기에 『수호전』이 널리 읽히면서 그 백화어휘집을 편찬한 것으로, 조선후기의 지적 풍토를 이해하는 데 귀중한 자료가 된다.
다만, 연세대학교 국학연구원의 『연세대학교 중앙도서관 소장 고서해제』 12책(평민사, 2008년 완간)은 유서의 종류, 유서와 어휘집의 구분 등이 명료하지 않고, 서지사항의 검토가 미흡하거나 서술이 불명료한 점이 있다. 향후 분야별로 선본 총서를 간행하면서 바로잡아 주길 기대한다.

영어초록

Yonsei University Central Library has a collection of many rare books and original copies that includes every part of four divisions(部) of Jing(經, classics), shi(史, histories), zi(子, masters), ji(集, collections). The annotated bibliography of old books in Yonsei University Central Library (12 volumes), recently published by Institute of Korean Studies, gave a bibliographical explanation of over 630 kinds of literature including bibliographical introductions of 32 kinds of leishu(類書) and Chinese character wordbook(漢字語彙集) owned by Central Library at Yonsei University.
Leishu is made up of many descriptions from various literatures. It played a critical role of a textbook which allowed men to cultivate themselves without reading original texts, and of hints on composition of poet and prose. It also developed to be a dictionary for search for the origins of things. In the mean time, there are books like 『Mulbo(物譜)』 and 『Jaemulgo(才物考)』 which can be regarded as a thesaurus of Chinese letters. It is similar to leishu in a sense that, though it is not made up of descriptions from various literatures, the way of collecting and classifying words is much alike.
Leishus and Chinese character wordbooks owned by Yonsei University are, for the most part, important research material to survey the history of thoughts during Chosun period, and these annotated bibliography will be a groundwork of researches hereafter.
From among these, 『Huiryak(彙略)』 which, though it belongs to a kind of leishu, deals with only a part of entire human life as a headword, is a rare book that can not be found at any other libraries. 『Josu Chungeo Chomok Myoeng(鳥獸蟲魚艸木名)』 which is a manuscript written in Sin jak(申綽)'s own hand, is also a rare text.
Besides, 『Suhoji Eorok(水滸誌語錄, 4 volumes with 5 chapters)』 written by Jeong Hakyeong(丁學榮) and two kinds of 『Suhoji Eorok(水滸誌語錄, 1 volume with 58 chapters, 1 volume with 18 chapters)』 that are anonymous, are important to understand the cultural climate of late Joseon dynasty.
However, The annotated bibliography of old books in Yonsei University Central Library (12 volumes) published by Institute of Korean Studies, Yonsei University, are not providing the clear classification of leishu and making no distinction between leishu and Chinese character wordbook. In addition, some of these bibliographies are not throughly examined nor clearly described. I expect that these problem will be solved when a classified series of rare books and original copies come out.
