서사 텍스트의 이독성 질적 평가 준거 개발 연구 (A Study on the Development of Evaluation Criteria for the Readability of Narrative Texts)

초록

읽기 능력은 삶을 영위하고 학습해 나가기 위한 토대가 된다. 읽기 능력의 향상을 위해서는 학교 교육에서 학생의 수준에 적합한 텍스트를 제공하는 일이 매우 중요하므로, 이독성 개념에 주목할 수 있다. 이독성(readability)이란 ‘글을 읽고 이해하기 쉬운 정도’를 의미한다.
서사 텍스트와 관련된 이독성 논의는 1990년대부터 본격화되었으나 대부분의 연구가 이독성 공식을 적용한 텍스트의 양적 분석에 집중되어 있고 이독성에 관여하는 텍스트 질적 요인에 대한 연구가 축적되지 못했다. 이독성 판정의 신뢰도와 타당도를 높일 수 있는 이독성 질적 평가 방안이 필요하다고 판단되는바 본 연구에서는 연구의 절차와 방법을 체계화함으로써 타당성 높은 서사텍스트 이독성 질적 평가 준거를 개발하고자 하였다.
문헌 연구 및 전문가 협의회를 통해 이독성 질적 평가 준거를 개발하고 이를 준거표(1차본)로 개발하였다. 준거표(1차본)의 타당성 검증을 위해 예비평가와 설문조사를 실시하였다. 예비평가 결과는 통계적으로 분석되고 설문조사 결과는 질적으로 분석되어 준거를 타당화, 정교화하는 데 환류하였다. 그 결과로 개발된 최종 준거표를 적용하여 예비평가와 같은 절차로 타당성을 살펴본 결과 통계적으로 무리 없이 검증되었다.
본 연구는 그동안 문학교육에서 충분한 관심을 갖지 못했던 텍스트 이독성의 문제, 그중에서도 질적 평가 준거의 상세화 문제를 전면에 다루었으며 질적평가 준거의 개발뿐 아니라 개발된 준거의 타당도 검증을 체계적으로 수행했다는 점에서 의의를 지닌다.

Reading skills are the foundation of life and learning. In order to improve students’ reading ability, it is very important to provide texts suitable for the level of the students.
In order to select a text suitable for the student’s level, it is necessary to judge the readability of the text. Readability refers to the degree to which a text can be easily understood by a reader. Although the discussion of readability of literary texts began in earnest in the 1990s, most of the research focused on quantitative analysis of texts that applied the readability formula. Studies on text quality factors involved in readability have not been deepened or diversified. There is a need for a readability qualitative evaluation method that can increase the reliability and validity of the readability determination.
In this study, by systematizing the procedures and methods of the study, a quality evaluation criterion for the readability of literature texts with high validity was developed. Through literature research and expert consultation, criteria for qualitative evaluation of readability of literary texts were developed and this was developed as a reference table. A pilot test and a survey were conducted to verify the validity of the reference table. The results of the pilot test and questionnaire analysis were fed back to justify and refine the criteria for qualitative evaluation. As a result of examining the validity of the final reference table by the same procedure as the pilot test by reflecting the feedback results, it was statistically verified without unreasonableness.
This study is significant in that it dealt with the issue of detailing the criteria for quality evaluation for readability of literary texts, and systematically conducted validation of the developed criteria as well as the development of criteria for qualitative evaluation.
